I mean, shit, if you're willing to include the Eastern Europeans as part of Europe, they did kind of rule over most of that shit for like 50 years. you might have heard of that. I know you don't like to consider people from Eastern Europeans human beings, because you're all horribly racist, but ya know.
if we're talking about recent history, it's equally absurd to say that Europe had no interest in developments in Eastern Europe and was totally cool with Russia just doing whatever. I mean, the thing that sparked everything was Ukraine trying to go decide whether to align with the EU or Russia. But no, I'm sure that was an American capitalist plot.

That's true, but I think my characterization of the grounds of the dispute within the Ukraine was accurate - it was a dispute, within Ukraine, about whether Ukraine should be aligned with Russia or the European Union which then deepened into a broader partisan conflict. Obviously, the whole country didn't come down on the Russia side of the issue.

Many didn't like the fact that the Ukraine government decided against the alignment with EU, true. I agree.
There was also a lot of tension because of a dissatisfaction with the government - corruption, difficulties for business, etc.
The part that first sided with Russia depends on the tourism. I think it played a part when they held a vote during the political unrest - they didn't want to lose profits. Tourism and revolutions don't go well together. Seems logical. Then another region voted to side with Russia... idk about that.
Anyway, I hope they'll be ok this winter in Ukraine. Warm water is kinda essential.

Honestly I don't have the answers here either, but from what I know the news about it in Eastern Europe vs. Western Europe is very different - i.e. - the word "war" is being used by my friends and family in Eastern Europe - in the West, it's taken a bit of a back seat in the news.

The media covers it quite differently. Even people in Ukraine don't agree on what's happening, other countries don't stand a chance of getting reliable news.
