They're not entitled to fic, but it's not wrong for them to be annoyed at something they don't enjoy being a big part of their fandom. Or is wanting to have fun in a particular way only okay if you're a writer?

Also, fuck, fuck, FUCK the "writers don't owe anyone anything" crap. You wanna know something? If you wanna actually do anything as a writer (or as ANY kind of craftsman), then at some point, you have to do things that other people want you to do. And even when it comes to fandom, if you're just sitting over there playing with your dick, then you're never gonna get the thing you're trying to get from producing fic, namely: attention and validation.

In before "but I'm not doing it for attention and validation," because fuck you, if you're putting it out there for other people to read, then YES, you're doing it for attention and validation. And fuck you up the fucking ass for thinking that you deserve attention and validation just for putting pen to paper and that the people you want attention and validation from aren't going to have some kind of expectations of you.

This is patently untrue.

Not to say that there aren't those who write and craft, paint, etc, for attention and fame, and want to give their followers and fans what they want, because there are those who do, and that's perfectly fine.

But I do a lot of art, a lot of writing, the way I like it. I simply have no desire to publish any of it. It's just for me and the few friends who enjoy it, and that's more than enough for me.

If you hang out in my part of my fandom, you would see works that writers, artists, put out, as is, I made it for myself, the way I like it, and if you like it, you are welcome to it. Some of them are surprisingly popular. Some them do it to contribute, to give back to the community. For some it is popularity, for some it isn't, but they definitely achieve BNF status by doing their own thing their way.

It seems like you're kind of assuming, here, that the people who think "writers don't owe you anything" are automatically the same people who think "readers owe writers something". What about people who don't think anybody owes anybody anything, and regard fanworks as completely unearned, undeserved, awesome efforts we share with each other because it's fun and exciting to do that? Instead of turning the whole thing into a daisy chain of resentment and entitlement?

Actually, I'm a published author who's doing it solely to find other people who are into the same things I'm into, and to write the things that I enjoy so that I can read it later. I want other people to know that it's okay to also like those things.

I wrote book one to see if I could do it, and now I'm writing book two to hopefully inspire more of these particular kinks.

Do I want attention from it? Eh, I'd rather see more books about these things than people flocking to me. This is why I use a pseudonym.

Also, I like a little bit of assfucking, so...

NaNoWriMo calls. Ta.
