What, is OP going to whine when people inevitably move on from their fandom, too?
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 02:06 am (UTC)(link)I swear, the reading comprehension levels on this comm drop by the day.
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 03:04 am (UTC)(link)Hence, implication.
/reading comprehension
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 03:18 am (UTC)(link)I find it hilarious that this anon can't resist even the vaguest connection to "writers owe u nuthin!" before they come screaming in, and quite frankly their desperation to latch onto ANY secret that is even within a hundred mile radius of the topic makes me think that either they're a troll or they've got issues that mean they take this shit way too personally.
I couldn't care less who thinks they owe/don't owe anybody. I'm a fanfic writer. I don't even think about it in terms of a consumerist relationship where one party is obligated to the other. I write, people read if they want to, that's about the end of it.
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)You comment consistently about a supposedly single anon arguing that writers do not owe anyone anything. And you obviously care enough to argue the point, or is it that you don't want to be shown up as, shall we say, misguided?
This makes you stand out as one person as opposed to any number of people saying that writers owe nothing to anyone. I've seen a few posts here and there saying that, and they do seem to be more than one person by their style, and what they say.
Which returns to your favorite topic- because your literary prowess is so much greater than anyone else's here- reading comprehension.
Re: DA
(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)I said "Hello 'writers owe you nothing!!!' anon."
From which you've managed to infer: my standpoint on an issue despite my explaining my reasoning for making the comment, the fact that I'm resentful, that I'm opposed to people saying writers owe nothing to anyone, that I claim "literary prowess" just because I don't jump to conclusions based on incredibly tenuous comments... care to add any more assumptions?
Yeah, still seeing a lot of comprehension fail on your part. And a lot of defensiveness, if you read that much into a comment that was nothing more than poking fun at someone who's either a) incredibly dogged on an issue to the point they'll bring it up when the topic is only very marginally related, or b) attempting to troll.
You're very welcome to think the poking fun is stupid, but at least then you'll be judging me for something I've actually done instead of all the things you seem to think I've done.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 03:10 am (UTC)(link)Also, fuck, fuck, FUCK the "writers don't owe anyone anything" crap. You wanna know something? If you wanna actually do anything as a writer (or as ANY kind of craftsman), then at some point, you have to do things that other people want you to do. And even when it comes to fandom, if you're just sitting over there playing with your dick, then you're never gonna get the thing you're trying to get from producing fic, namely: attention and validation.
In before "but I'm not doing it for attention and validation," because fuck you, if you're putting it out there for other people to read, then YES, you're doing it for attention and validation. And fuck you up the fucking ass for thinking that you deserve attention and validation just for putting pen to paper and that the people you want attention and validation from aren't going to have some kind of expectations of you.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 03:49 am (UTC)(link)This is patently untrue.
Not to say that there aren't those who write and craft, paint, etc, for attention and fame, and want to give their followers and fans what they want, because there are those who do, and that's perfectly fine.
But I do a lot of art, a lot of writing, the way I like it. I simply have no desire to publish any of it. It's just for me and the few friends who enjoy it, and that's more than enough for me.
If you hang out in my part of my fandom, you would see works that writers, artists, put out, as is, I made it for myself, the way I like it, and if you like it, you are welcome to it. Some of them are surprisingly popular. Some them do it to contribute, to give back to the community. For some it is popularity, for some it isn't, but they definitely achieve BNF status by doing their own thing their way.

It seems like you're kind of assuming, here, that the people who think "writers don't owe you anything" are automatically the same people who think "readers owe writers something". What about people who don't think anybody owes anybody anything, and regard fanworks as completely unearned, undeserved, awesome efforts we share with each other because it's fun and exciting to do that? Instead of turning the whole thing into a daisy chain of resentment and entitlement?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote book one to see if I could do it, and now I'm writing book two to hopefully inspire more of these particular kinks.
Do I want attention from it? Eh, I'd rather see more books about these things than people flocking to me. This is why I use a pseudonym.
Also, I like a little bit of assfucking, so...
NaNoWriMo calls. Ta.
