(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)Okay. We'll take this slow so you can keep up.
OPINION =/= ENTITLEMENT.
People can want things without thinking they're entitled to them.
People can express said want and vent their disappointment without thinking they're entitled to anything.
People can even *gasp!* complain without thinking they're entitled to anything.
Or have you never ever in your life expressed that you wanted something without realizing full well you have no divine right to it? Never wished a TV show came back/changed direction, or that someone's behaviour would be different? Do you only ever express disconent or dissatisfaction over things you're 100% entitled to? Do you always expect your personal opinions to have one iota of influence, and only express them at all when that's the case?
I want a Ferarri and to magically lose twenty pounds and for the Hunger Games franchise to vanish off the face of the planet and to get 100 glowing reviews on every fic I ever post. Do I think I'm entitled to any of those things? No. Doesn't mean I can't complain about them. I'm absolutely certain Suzanne Collins gives no fucks whatsoever about what I think, as it should be.
Where the fuck do you people keep getting this "owing" concept? Because if you're going to turn around and spout nonsense about how OP worded their statement then I can just as easily turn around and say you're the one reading that into what they're saying.
OP hopes less RP means more fic. There is NOTHING in that about being owed a goddamn thing. It's OP's preference, it's how they wish things were.
THAT IS NOT FUCKING ENTITLEMENT. If it was, people in warzones wishing for peace would be entitlement. People in West Africa wishing Ebola would fuck off would be behaving in an entitled way.
"I wish certain person wrote more fic and I'm disappointed when they don't" is NOT "Certain person owes me fic because I'm entitled to it and it's my divine right so they have to give it to me." How fucking hard is that for you idiots to comprehend?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 02:31 am (UTC)(link)That is an extremely selfish way of thinking. If a writer I like stops writing for my fandom, sure, I'll be disappointed, but I'm not going to sit there and wish for them to leave their new fandom, because THAT is selfish and entitled of me. "I wish this person would write more fic" is not the same thing as "I'm glad this person isn't doing this other thing anymore so that they can write more fic for me to read." One is selfish, the other is just expressing a wish.
How hard is that for you to comprehend?
