But movies can be things other than serious and angtsy

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Quiet, you!

We must have only angst and pain and death. There are no shades of gray, only black that isn't trying hard enough.

I'm David Goyer, and I think you've probably never been laid.

I thought it was a lot of fun and wasn't trying to be more than it was. Sorry it didn't work for you.

Tbh, I find almost all the marvel movies to be boring.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
This is pretty much all Marvel movies IMO.

I think people liked it just because they liked it.

But it's okay not to like it. Nobody's wrong and you don't have to understand it.

I mostly liked it because there was lots of sweet-looking action in space, and goofy adventure stuff, and funny quippy lines. I don't think a movie needs to have emotional impact of the kind you're describing to be a good or an enjoyable movie. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
You and I must have been watching two different movies then.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
They might be fun, but most of the Marvel movies aren't actually good (no matter how much the fans will get defensive about it). The first Iron Man movie was good and CATWS and the Avengers okay-ish. Most of them are crap.

I haven't seen the entire thing but it reminds me a lot of Keith Giffen's work. Keith Giffen is why I read comics -- he's typically doing some very out-there, tongue-in-cheek work. It's because of Giffen that I get to read comics where an angry goat/dog/rat thing in an orange bodysuit gets into a fistfight with a giant pink cat man dressed like a Japanese rock star.

I want some silliness in my comics. I'm so glad DC seems to be moving away from its angsty grimdark phase that colored so much of the early years of the New 52.

I was underwhelmed by it also, so you're not alone, OP. I think it's highly overrated.

It's fun. Not a *great* movie, but fun.

This is my opinion about pretty much everything else in the MCU (well, not the childish part but the underwhelming bit very much).

That's not necessarily true.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I don't know whether it's good or bad (haven't seen it), but there have been plenty of not great movies that have been hits and some good movies that were flops. Brand names and franchises do help, sometimes, but they aren't everything - I submit Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (if you watch it, I totally understand you disliking me intensely for bringing it to your attention)

Just because you don't like something, that doesn't make it unlikeable.

I thought the plot was pretty weak but I enjoyed the characters and their dynamic.

I'm with you - I really did not much enjoy GotG, so much that it kind of turned me off the MCU as a whole.
And when everybody goes on about how much fun it is... I don't see it. It wasn't a fun movie for me.

I agree. I felt like almost every time there was an emotion beyond silliness it felt paint by numbers. "Now it is time for our protagonists to reveal something about their inner turmoil so that they can bond". It left me cold. Except for Groot at the end.

It wasn't terrible, but I also am not quite understanding the hype.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
k, you don't like it. Bugs you that other people do? Tough titty, kitty.

It was really a trial to sit through and desperately unfunny. I might have been interested if the story was about Gamora and Nebula rather than a sexist man child.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Why can't people just like or not like things and not worry about if other people like or don't like them?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone in this. Although Groot is my favouritest. And I liked the scenery.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that movie was terrible. Juvenile, puerile everything that people used to make fun of comic books about.

yeah jokes about whores are funny and no girls in our club house.
