Tony/Pepper -- even though I loved them as friends, they just don't click for me as a couple. I've seen it work in fic though, so it might be something about the chemistry between RDJ and Gwyneth Paltrow that blows it for me.

Anakin/Padme -- Hi, awkward age difference and negative chemistry!

For Tony/Pepper, for some reason, I can only ship them when I include another character in a threesome (so Pepper has someone to gang up on Tony with). Otherwise I just get the feeling that he would have WAY too much of a tendency to slip back into treating her as his PA.

Anakin/Padmé -- I get what people don't like about it, but I love how fucked up it is. Padmé's only like 4-5 years older than him any way, so I'm not sure what the huge issue is? By Revenge of the Sith, he's 22/23 and she's about 27 so I don't think it's that big of a gap.

but to me, Anakin/Padme is just weird because she met him when she was an adolescent, presumably going through puberty, and he was still a little prepubescent boy. I mean, five years when you're nine and fourteen is an enormous difference. It's not so big of a different when you're in your twenties, sure, but considering they first met much younger, it does seem a little more squicky.

It's okay. Like I said, I get why people don't like it. To be honest, I always got the feeling that both of them had INCREDIBLY fucked up reasons for getting together. Anakin because he had a crush on her because she was beautiful and kind and paid attention to him when he was nobody (which morphed into an obsession given how lonely he grew up in the Jedi Order). In a way, I kind of think she's a mommy substitute for him.

Padmé, meanwhile, was also incredibly lonely and got swept up by the intensity of emotions towards her. And I think, after he lost his mom, that she wanted to "fix" him and save him.

And it's all kinds of fucked up, but damn if I don't enjoy the dynamic.

Agreed with you on Tony/Pepper. They're so much more cuter and interesting as the flirty/ust friends, than as an actual couple. Then they just became boring.

I love Tony/Pepper. For the same reason all the anti-T/P fans hate it. It totally gets in the way of the Tony/Cap cuddlefics.

AYRT -- Yeah, the Cap cuddles aren't really a factor, since I just don't see it between MCU Steve and Tony. Like I said, I can ship T/P in fic, but the canon leaves me cold. I think it's the actors -- their relationship just feels kind of incest-y to me (which I'm also not into.)

That's…kind of weird to be honest. You love it because it gets in the way of Tony/Cap? Honestly, that sounds kind of homophobic.

I get not liking Tony/Cap fans who treat Pepper like shit and shunt her to the side, but when the reason you like a pairing is because it prevents another pairing from happening…well…that's a bit sad.

It doesn't sound homophobic, it sound like they hate Tony/Steve. Which is perfectly understandable, really, and people have aggressively taken one side of a ship war for that reason before.

...of course, canon pairings don't get in the way of fandom pairings much at all, so I don't know what they're even talking about.
