Honestly, I'm keeping my expectations as low as they will go. I dislike JJ Abrams so I expect I will hate this film.

I just hope no one gives me shit about it because the new cast is so diverse. Yeah, it's great that more women and POC are in Star Wars, but that in and of itself doesn't make the film GOOD.

Interestingly, my first reaction on the trailer was 'Hmmm, very JJ Abrams'
I don't know if that will be a good or bad thing for the SW franchise, but it gave me the same *feel* as the trailers from '09 Trek.

Yeah…I am NOT a fan of '09 Trek so I expect I'm going to dislike it. Abrams just doesn't have a single bit of nuance in his body. And say what you will about Lucas, but the man is an astounding visual director.

Abrams is competent, but that's about it. He's completely uninspired and is the ultimate "safe" choice that Disney could have picked.

He knows how to appeal to the masses, but doesn't have it in him to give the characters or story any depth beyond pure entertainment value.

Da

Critics disagree with you.
You obviously haven't watched his alias, lost (first seasons only were his), felicity, fringe.
I don't know how someone can say that his trek had no depth ever and for none of the characters (Spock man Spock, even just that scene with Sarek )
There are worse writers and directors more hyped and overrated than him.
