I LOVE the prequels so what disappointed me most about this trailer is just how similar everything looked to the original trilogy. Not that I want everything to look like the prequels, but having something original would be really nice. The aesthetic is too similar and I'm afraid it's going to be a nostalgia trip for middle-aged fanboys.

To me, it was good that it showed that they had some of what worked in the original series. But I agree that it's equally important to see whether they're going to be able to do something new with that, or just, yeah, faff around with nostalgia bullshit. No way of telling just yet.

I don't think it would make sense for them to look like the prequels that much, just in the sense that there's so much time intervening - we're going in the opposite direction time-wise, I just don't see what the justification would be for using that aesthetic again. (I also don't necessarily share your feelings about the prequels but w/e)

Huh. I was thinking that this trailer looked WAY too similar to the prequels for me. Or at least, that it's doing the specific things that made the prequels not good, in my book.

First off: back to Tatooine, AGAIN. Disastrous choice. The first Star Wars film created this vast universe that had an epic sense of scope. That started shrinking in ROTJ, and by the end of the prequels their universe was small enough to toss a frisbee across.

Second: more Stormtroopers? Really? How does that even... WHY DO YOU THINK THE STORMTROOPERS ARE WHAT PEOPLE ARE COMING BACK FOR?

Third: Christ on a cracker, that lightsaber. The sin of the prequels was expanding on the wrong things, doing bad fanservice that was only ever skin-deep, and a big part of that was "Oh, you like lightsabers? Well, what about a DOUBLE lightsaber?" So now we've got Abrams going "Oh, we won't be making that mistake again. Instead we have a TRIPLE lightsaber!" I had the opposite reaction to you. I thought I was so over Star Wars. I've never been a big fan. (I was always more of a Star Trek fangirl.) But the new SW trailer left me squealing like an idiot. Turns out, I guess I am a bigger fan that I thought.

What I have felt is that people had their expectations up too high for and are getting very upset over very little. I have seen people say that everything is ruined now, the whole series, the originals, all of it.

I think there is too much attachment to Star Wars and it's making people overreact to a very run-of-the-mill teaser.

I still haven't even watched the teaser trailer. Just feels weird to me. Like, I know people are really invested in what Disney does to the franchise, but this seems just way too early to watch a trailer for me. Like it'll have a bunch of kinks in it that'll be worked out by the time the actual trailer comes out. Or something. I dunno, my brain has weird hang-ups like that.

It's way too vague for me to feel much right now. But I am feeling slightly excited over it. Though it's hard to do so after that AMAZING Jurassic World trailer that has me all a flutter.

Honestly, I'm keeping my expectations as low as they will go. I dislike JJ Abrams so I expect I will hate this film.

I just hope no one gives me shit about it because the new cast is so diverse. Yeah, it's great that more women and POC are in Star Wars, but that in and of itself doesn't make the film GOOD.

There's a bunch of fucks using SWORDS made of LIGHT in a universe where there are guns and WMDs. And we've always been supposed to believe that SWORDS can block GUN SHOTS.

I don't give two shits if someone's using the force, a sword vs a pistol should be a closed and shut match.

And you fucks have all bought it for so long that you're apoplectic over something finally showing that it's impractical. Yet instead of acknowledging that it's ALWAYS been impractical, you wank over the pollution of your pure shit. But, see, even pure shit is still shit.

I feel you, OP.

When I saw the Falcon, I didn't get excited like everyone else, I just thought, "She looks...wrong? Too bright? Too detailed? Something?" and the ball droid just seemed superfluous, I hope it's just a background droid.

That said, I did find Daisy Ridley's brief appearance in the trailer to have some magic.

(I'm still so freakin' nervous about this and if the rumors are accurate, I'll probably get up and leave. The idea of Luke fighting his powers and becoming bad and the villain of 8 & 9 is fucking awful - we had Luke reject the Dark Side in 6, that was the whole point. And the rumor of it being a dystopia? Like, c'mon, we overthrew the Empire, it's supposed to be better, that's where we left it. *sigh*)

The sequels sucked so bad that they made Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull look good. Why does anyone expect this one to be any better? The ONLY reason to go see this train wreck is to see if they can top Jar Jar Binks.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I expect I'll end up going to see the movie anyway but...

...I told someone today that I've seen fanmade SW videos that looked better than some of the things I saw on this trailer.

Like, legit, some of it just didn't look like something you'd expect to see from a major company (and I'm not talking the lightsaber, just...more like the feel of the cinematography or the graphics or something, I can't put my finger on it).

Certainly didn't capture me the way the prequel trailers (or even the bit I've seen of Star Wars Rebels).

So yeah, disappointing.

I'm the opposite, I thought I didn't care but the trailer picked my interest a bit.
Who is that dude at the beginning? He's the main character I read. Was he a stormtrooper?
Also here for Oscar Isaac too.
The sith probably is the part I liked the most, though.
Could be Luke (I hope not) or maybe Adam Driver's character (speculations want him as the villain)
