why the fuck would you have lasers close to the hilt, unless you actually want to cut off your hands.

You might want to take chunks of your thigh and shoulder out too. You can see from the way the character is posed in trailer just how awkward it is going to be to fit the FX in around them too.

One person did, then JJ looked at him and said "it's okay, once we add in the lens flare no one will see it". The next day, there was just a binding light coming from that person's cubical and he was never seen again.

Sorry, it's just that in a bare-bones teaser trailer, it really does stand out, and it really is more than a little silly-looking.

It's only that silly if you're a shut-in geek with nothing better to do than get upset by a weapon that's completely unrealistic and antiquated even without the cross guard.

You're on fandomsecrets. Do you really think you have the right to give Star Wars fans shit about being upset about a weapon design? It's not like this place is all that different, to be honest.

Nah, pretty sure it's silly anyway. A laser sword is always unrealistic and antiquated, yes, but it's also cool for acrobatically cutting things. Those little side blades won't even do that. They look useless, and when something visibly looks like slapstick waiting to happen, for no purpose, people are going to notice.

I wish you'd learn how to appraise a lightsaber. The fact you don't care speaks ill of you sir, not me.

I am busy appraising the things that matter in the realm of life. But you can continue to appraise the things in non-life and see if it does anything.

Leaving aside the rampant impracticality of it for a second, I can't help but think that it would have looked a lot more impressive if all three blades had come out at once. I mean, if you absolutely have to have them. But the way the side blades come on a second later just makes it so much more ridiculous. When the main blade comes out, looking less controlled and more flame-like than a lot of lightsabers, it looks cool, and then a second later these two dinky side things pop out like 'whoops, sorry we're late, what'd we miss?'.

It just ... it's like an unintentional punchline to something that wasn't meant to be a joke. Timing, people. Not good.

hahah. laser dysfunction. also no one here seems to be complaining about the weird Christian symbolism, which almost offends me more than the risk of bodily harm those mini-sabers represent to the wielder.

I didn't really think Christian at any point, I just thought it was trying to imitate a broadsword crossguard. It looked more like 'stereotypical fantasy sword' than 'inverted Christian cross' to me, though I suppose I can see where the latter comes from, and why it'd be at the very least more than a little weird.

I also love how "inverted cross" always makes people think "OMG SATAN" when an inverted cross is actually the symbol of Saint Peter.
