There is such a fucking offensive history behind that photo. That guy didn't know the nurse. He was just grabbed that stranger and assaulted her taking advantage V-D Day. He was on a date with another woman you can see in the picture. That picture needs to go away, it's gross and shames the uniform of the men and women who fought in the war.

That story is a myth. The woman, Edith Shain, who claimed to be the nurse in the photo with her story of assault was found out to be a fraud. The truth is no one knows who the nurse was. The sailor, Glen McDuffie, was running through the streets, shouting for joy because with V-Day, his brother who was a prisoner of war, would be released. He spotted a nurse who noticed him. She threw open her arms and ran to them and kissed her.

Where did you read this? I googled her name and nothing turns up that says it/she was a fraud.

Uh...where did you get that from? As far as I can tell that's just taking his story at face value and discounting hers. Nothing I can find proves the nurse to be a "fraud" o_O

I've always thought it was worth remembering that attitudes were different in 1945 AND A WORLD WAR HAD JUST ENDED.

In this 2010 article, Edith Shain doesn't seem too traumatized by being kissed by a stranger in the midst of a mass celebration:

Yes, a lot of attitudes from those days needed to change. But the circumstances in this case were pretty unusual and possibly don't quite line up with our everyday life in 2014.

People were excited because SIX YEARS OF WORLD WAR HAD ENDED. This wasn't exactly the same thing as those street harassment videos posted nowadays. "It's over! We made it!" *smooch*

I get all SJW about some things, but this quaint little relic of a day of mass jubilation? Not so much. Especially not when the woman involved seems to remember the kiss as just another moment in a wonderful day.

I like it for being actually violent, personally. If you're writing about vampires, you should go for the blood and guts approach (don't know if this book does that or not.)

Blood and guts is the author's thing. The first book (the one pictured is a sequel) was full of both, this one is sure to be too.

What don't you like about the tumblr fandom? I've seen like two posts about ALVH that weren't about the movie and that was what frustrated me. Movie!Henry is not Henry as far as I'm concerned.

Movie Henry really isn't Henry, tbh. I appreciated what they were trying to do in theory, but the books are superior in every way.

As far as the Tumblr fandom, wow. From my time spent among them, they will support you as long as you ignore obvious stuff (like slavery and the real life history attached to Abraham and Mary Lincoln). Otherwise, you're "missing the point." The effing book is about slavery and how Abe and Co. made decisions based on slavery. What point is there to miss? Other than that, it started out really positive, but went into the negative quite quickly and I just don't want to go back.

Henry in the movie is not the same character in the books. I suggest that you start with "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter," which is the first book. Have fun!
