I think 9 was referring to more like, those fics so randomly filled with metaphor where you're all "what the fuck do beautiful waterfalls and pools of sharks have to do with anything? what? and where'd all the actual action go?" than intricate plots or dialogue that actually make you think. I've read fics like the former where the character's NAMES weren't even mentioned, they were just... supposed to be represented by... pools or rainbows or something. It was a story, literally, about a rainbow over a pool. Just -being- there. And LOLZ IF U DIDNT GET/LIKE IT/LINK IT AUTOMATICALLY TO THE CHARACTERS U JUST WERENT DEEP ENOUGH.

I mean just... what.

Kinda like, abstract art is nice, but stick it in photoshop and blur it to all hell and uh, well, you just have some blurry... thing. And then when you're all "what the hell is that?" everyone else is like "afghakjdf it's ART DUH R U STUPID." It's easy to get pissed.

Metaphors to explain metaphors, whoo.

I'm thinking you're misinterpreting what "crackpairings" are; the word is a bit of a misnomer, I admit. The word "crackpairings" is used in the sense that they are unusual, unpopular, crossedover, whatever, anything that may make them hard to consider canon by the fandom, or maybe when you see the names pushed together you go "what"? Not really the sort that are done for a joke.
