I LOVE TALES OF THE ABYSS! The characters, the story, the... EVERYTHING. It's perfect. (I love Luke so hard T_T A main character that actually DEVELOPS as the story progresses is a WIN.)

I think 9 was referring to more like, those fics so randomly filled with metaphor where you're all "what the fuck do beautiful waterfalls and pools of sharks have to do with anything? what? and where'd all the actual action go?" than intricate plots or dialogue that actually make you think. I've read fics like the former where the character's NAMES weren't even mentioned, they were just... supposed to be represented by... pools or rainbows or something. It was a story, literally, about a rainbow over a pool. Just -being- there. And LOLZ IF U DIDNT GET/LIKE IT/LINK IT AUTOMATICALLY TO THE CHARACTERS U JUST WERENT DEEP ENOUGH.

I mean just... what.

Kinda like, abstract art is nice, but stick it in photoshop and blur it to all hell and uh, well, you just have some blurry... thing. And then when you're all "what the hell is that?" everyone else is like "afghakjdf it's ART DUH R U STUPID." It's easy to get pissed.

I'm thinking you're misinterpreting what "crackpairings" are; the word is a bit of a misnomer, I admit. The word "crackpairings" is used in the sense that they are unusual, unpopular, crossedover, whatever, anything that may make them hard to consider canon by the fandom, or maybe when you see the names pushed together you go "what"? Not really the sort that are done for a joke.

9. There's a thin line between a good fanfic that makes you think and one that is just so stuffed and overlayered that you have to dig to follow all the plot threads.

2. Story of my RP life. My best friend and I actually would either RP off our fanfic or RP to plot out fanfic. It's fun and helps ones creativity.

9. ::dies.:: Yeah. Oh yeah. In fact, I think I have a secret coming up in a few days that basically says the same thing. I can only guess what prompted this one. When your notes are longer than your fic so people can actually try to maybe understand what the fuck you're trying to say, it's not really worth my time. Seriously, once you scratch away all the pretty words and crazy ass metaphors there was no story. Not even a pointless story. God, random PWP has more of a consistent plot line. I swear these people do it for the attention. What the hell ever happened to writing because one actually enjoys it?

I find that if any fic needs author's notes -explaining- the story, it's A) terrible, B) written for attention, C) trying to show off omghowmuchtimeandresearch the writer put into it, D) some combination of the above. Why else would they -bother- with notes? Even if it's metaphor, then it's your metaphor, you get it, who cares (and besides, not explaining lets other people make their own conclusions)? And then if they go claim "I wrote it for fun" I'm like uhhhh yeah right. Unless you write textbooks for fun. >>"

I wonder if people actually write novels like that. And if they do, I wonder who the hell reads them. *DIES*

#9: Oh, oh my god. I could scream. I disagree so hard. I love depth and metaphors and I wish there was more of it in fanfiction. I like reading because of the plots and thinking and complications; that's why I prefer it to video, or television, where all of the inferences are handed to you and subtext is rare. I love convoluted plots in fanfiction, and I can't stand reading things that are too simple; I walk away feeling as if I haven't accomplished anything by reading it other than spending (wasting!) time.
