lol what?

I fuckin' love Sweeney Todd. It's my favorite musical ever. I like Depp, but I'm not a huge fan or anything, and when they cast him I was very worried he wouldn't be able to do the role justice.

But I saw the movie and I thought his acting--and to a lesser degree his perfectly passable, if not Broadway-quality, singing--was one of the best things about it.

Glad to see this makes me a rabid Depp fangirl incapable of appreciating THE TRUTH about his suckitude.

We obviously saw two very different movies; there isn't any way for me to respond to that.

The movie's script and direction stripped most of the themes from the story; it seems kind of unfair to blame Depp for not being able to reincorporate them singlehandedly.

Despite that...

Depp absolutely refused to take voice lessons on the grounds that they were A WASTE OF HIS TIME. He claimed that he didn't want to spend hours and hours in front of a piano when he could be working on developing his character. I don't have a link to the article he said that it, but if I find it again, I'll cite it.

That said, considering he supposedly ditched music rehearsals to work on his character... I sure saw NO evidence that he worked on it at all. His entire character was >:|.

OMG WTF I DIDN'T KNOW THAT HE DID THAT. >:O Seriously? Seriously? I wouldn't put it past him, but HOLY SHIT.

I imagine voice lessons would have taught how to hit a note straight on too, it's not like it's hard or anything.

And yeah, it's not like he tried emoting or anything as Sweeney. He was basically a zombie unless he was killing someone. Wow, so nuanced.

And the specific quote from page two:

''That kind of thing would have been a disaster. I would still be rehearsing right now. Or I'd have been fired.'"

Yes. That would have been a disaster. You know, as opposed to skipping voice lessons entirely.

I never said that. My comment about rabid Depp fangirls is the girls who have never seen the musical and will never watch it because EW THAT SWEENEY ISN'T AS HAWT AS JOHNNY and see fit to declare him TEH BEST SWEENEY EVAR and think he has THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SINGING VOICE IN THE WORLD etcetcetc.
