Threads that you still think about negatively

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
You know when you have an argument and want to return to the scene of the crime like 5 years later and be like, "OH AND ANOTHER THING."

Now is your chance.

The goddamn Hogwarts/Autism thread, holy shit. That was just a clusterfuck.

Link an anon who wasn't here for that one, please?

Not to make an argument, but. That one thread where certain fs posters came out as being broken up. I never get second hand embarrassment, but I got so much second hand embarrassment from that whole debacle. Just thinking about it makes me want to hide. Oh man. I just... dude. I'm glad I pulled away from the comm a bit because I never want to be so involved in a comm that I feel the need to announce my comings and goings like that.

...I thought that all went down at the shitstream, not here? No?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't make the choices that led to that announcement. It's not like it was out of a clear blue sky, you know?

Yeah? Imagine living it.

It sucks and I really didn't want to say a damn thing. The problem is that I was worried some anon was going to start saying terrible stuff, so I had to put out some kind of statement before it got out of control. I would have preferred to keep it in shitstream, where there's people to whom I'm closer and would actually give a shit, but apparently someone blabbed.

I'll now shut up about it. I hate that kind of drama too, anon. Thanks a bunch for bringing it up.

They broke up way before the conversation and they didn't WANT to talk about it. I mean damn. They TRIED to keep it under wraps, and the post was trying to continue to keep it under wraps when some asshole anon didn't want to let them do that.

At least understand what actually happened. You're thinking unfair things about the people involved, which I think also was what that anon wanted. :/

Re: Threads that you still think about negatively

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Their post about it was actually personally reasonable considering the situation they were in (having a creepy anon stalk them threatening to gossip about them). And it really didn't need to be brought up again here. I'm kind of getting second hand embarrassment from you saying you had second hand embarrassment about that thread, actually.

It's clearly a soap dish.

Yes it sucks that you had to pay for the damage, but no it's was never even slightly conceivable it was a handle, just accept your mistake and move on.

Ok I'll be totally honest here, the people who keep bringing this up are way more obnoxious than Otaku was in that conversation.

Yes, it was a silly mistake. For fuck's sake one silly mistake does not an imbecile make.

It's all right for you to teach geography however you damn well please in your own country, but you cannot expect everyone else to follow suit, or for other people to accept labels they don't like.

Several of the religious vs. atheists threads. Particularly one where one atheist basically insisted I was something they A) Could not have possibly known one way or the other because I had said nothing to the effect and B) they were only saying this thing to score SJW brownie points. And/or make me lose my temper. Neither of which happened.

Not on this site, but I once witnessed a ten-page argument over whether and how fantasy novelists should promote feminism in their writing. The most obnoxiously feminist person on the site kept deliberately provoking the fundamentalist Christian, and he kept saying stupid things in response. Then other people would try to argue reasonably with her, and she would ignore them in order to make fun of what the fundamentalist had said. Whenever he said something intelligent, she would ignore him to make fun of something stupid one of the other posters had said. It went in circles over and over without getting anywhere, and the eventual lock was more of a mercy killing. (This was also when I discovered just how monumentally paranoid some of the anti-feminist posters on that site were, and if I recall correctly, that thread had some of the most stupid statements by the creepy fat white guy with Asperger's who can't stop talking about how African women make his dick hard.)

Certain threads of SanSan wank. Because you should be able to say that the Sansa-Sandor relationship (and I use that word completely neutrally) is interesting and worthy of discussion, without said discussion being exclusively about romantic "shipping." UGH.

I want to talk about how Sansa and Sandor are used as a parallel to Jaime and Brienne, and how both relationships are about honor and what it means to be a knight. I don't want to talk exclusively about that imaginary goddamn kiss. >:(

I recall a thread where someone with autism who didn't like autism speaks and was disturbed by them, (and their video where the mom talks about killing their kid and themselves onscreen in front of the kid) was talked over and pretty much chastised for being selfish by some person who's only experience with autism was "I saw this autistic guy throw a tantrum in a store".

Like the person - with the disorder - was called selfish for caring about the lives of people with a disability, by some wart who only cared about the secondhand embarrassment they felt one time for one person.

I found it nauseating and infuriating and it pissed me off for the rest of the day. I still think of it sometimes when I see people on tumblr scream about not censoring dumb with pointless astriks. That's not ableism. What happened in that thread? That was ableism.

Not many people wrote 10 facts about me the other day. I'm vane like that, I don't want to be the least interesting person on the thread, hehe.
Aaand so many, honestly. The jew people tread, that was just a disgrace.
I'm butthurt every time republicans and torri (or something) get mentioned on completely unrelated topics. It happens like every day on fs. I scroll by, but it got old quickly. I facepalmed the whole thread about RDJ being a conservative.
Then that thread about asexuals over representation on the 'asexuals VS gen' secret.
Also I was going to post a few Dresden Files fic recs here, but I've lost the post, and I promised to, and I have negative feeling about it.
Oh, and that anon hater who hated OC; can't say which thread in particular, tho. Not to forget the animals are better than people thread, it was like half a year ago.
Oh, and someone said the guy on my icon (not the current one) would be ashamed of me. I don't remember the context but that was a low blow.
Hm, I'm sure I can think of something else...

Social justice people liking and promoting a book does not make said book an "hysterical SJW screed." I mean, shit.

(This is super specific and personal and silly)
