Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
Cory felt kind of boring too, tbh. That bit where you meet him in "In Your Heart Shall Burn" was damn exciting and really pumped me up (his "Beg that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of the gods and it was empty," speech) but then you barely see him again (in any meaningful way) and only fight his lackeys. I def thought the game ran out of steam in the last quarter.
Dorian is one of my favorite companions and I can't wait to romance him. He was my BFF (who I still flirted shamelessly with) in my first playthrough and even his friendship is seriously heartwarming. Dorian deserves everything good in this world. Wish we could hug him. (Is that an option at any point? Did I miss a hug? I want hugs.)
Ah, see, I'm not talking about the romances not showing up at all (I didn't know that was even a thing, but now I'm going to make sure I take every single flirt option in future playthroughs), but I've heard about issues with Cass's cutscenes, Dorian's personal quest, Cullen not talking to you after a cutscene with Sera, and Solas's final mission being bugged. So right now (though I know that stuff doesn't happen to everyone), I'm scared of getting too far in then having to start over. Ugh. Being impatient sucks. :/ (A dalish archer for Cullen sounds adorable! I'm romancing him with a human. I'd Rather play as an elf or a dwarf, but since he isn't into dwarves and I'm going to eventually romance Solas as an elf I figured I would go ahead.)
I've heard so much about Knight Enchanter being all-powerful but I'm not that far into my mage playthrough so I have little experience with it. I have however done a rogue with an Assassin specialization and actually found it really fun. At any rate, I'm sure the classes will be tweaked with future updates! BioWare always does that, so it'll be more balanced later. Just frustrating in the meantime, but what can you do?
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 03:33 am (UTC)(link)I'm also really hoping we get to explore the blood engine of Kirkwall at some point, since that would be a nice tie-in with Corphy and the Architect and other crazy ancient magister shit. (Tevinter for DA4 plz)
A lot of the romance/party 'bugs' are actually just amazingly poor planning from Bioware making it so certain interactions only trigger under stupidly specific circumstances. Bioware's all but said they won't fix some of them because they "aren't broken." Same with the infamous Party Banter Bug, which Bioware has explained is actually how it's supposed to work. (Which really makes you wonder wtf Bioware was thinking with some of the triggers they've set.)
I decided to skip the Solas romance, since I felt my Dalish hunter wouldn't be into all his magical woo-woo metaphysics crap. I went with the American VA for her because the British VA sounded too 'human', and I've basically been playing her as a Dragon Age-y Ellen Ripley.
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
With all you hear about the Venatori over the course of the game, it IS extremely odd that they didn't get a bigger mission or have a more important role in the game. (I want to go to Tevinter, too!)
Yeaaaaaaaa, if BioWare want to say some of these issues aren't "bugs" that's fine, but I'm having trouble believing that. I mean, I bought the game, I liked it, I'm not asking for a refund or anything...but just work on a patch, Jesus Christ.
I adore Solas but I can see why he might not be for everyone, and as much as I enjoy all the VA's, it is kind of weird to replay the game using the same VA for a different character. I felt that way with Hawke sometimes, even though I found male Hawke's VA to be great. (At least we have more than one option this time!)
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 04:56 am (UTC)(link)The party banter thing is horrible. I can't find the post where they explained it, but basically banter is supposed to fire every fifteen minutes (a long-ass time to begin with), but only if you
-aren't near hostile mobs (if there's red on your map you're too close)
-aren't in Val Royeaux, Redcliffe?, Keeps?, some other locations
-???? (there were quite a few other blocks that you could trigger but I don't recall what they were)
Which means you could conceivably play for hours without ever hearing anything just because you're fighting too much or are playing in zones where it doesn't trigger, or are going back to camp/skyhold too much or whatever.
It's a drastically different system from DA2 and DAO. In DAO it triggered every time you hit a 'banter' zone (you could keep walking over the same spot again and again if you wanted to grind out dialogue). In DA2 I think it was similar. Bioware wanted to move away from that and make it more 'organic' but instead it's a broken mess. :( Same with a lot of the other problems people are having. I lucked out and I haven't run into any of them so far, but I haven't tried to trigger Dorian's quest on my templar run yet and I'm not sure how that'll work without having ever met Alexius.
I luckily didn't download the PC patch that came out a few days back. Apparently it broke the graphics and fucked up even more things? Bioware needs to fix a lot of problems ASAP. A lot of people are going to be getting the game for Xmas and right now it's really buggy for a AAA title.
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
I actually did see that post, but I'm still hoping they'll change it up a bit in a future patch. Maybe I'm being overtly optimistic, but people hate the banter issues so much in this game that I hope BioWare listens to their audience. I miss Origins banter. The banter in Inquisition is just as good, but not being able to actually listen to any of it is a big problem... I wish there was a trigger as easy as running in front of Orzammar... Can't tell you how many times I exploited the convo triggers in the other games, but it was nice having certainty it would work.
They already have a hot fix for the graphical issues caused by the last patch! It made hair shiny as all get out; it was terrible. I'm not sure what else the patch did, though. I know I had more party banter before the patch, but I'm not sure if the patch had anything to do with it or if it's just the game hating me. I understand games are going to have bugs, but... I can't remember having played a game with this many issues. Not for quite some time, anyway. I hope it doesn't take another month, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.
