I'm going to be honest OP, you seem like a nice person, but I think this whenever I see this sort of comment.

People do not care nearly as much about your shipping preferences as you think they do. The vast, vast majority of people do not give two shits about what you ship or why you ship it.

(The only exception is if you are a BNF, in which case people care a lot about what you think, but that extends to all sorts of things.)

Yep. You can always find idiots on the internet because it's the internet, but I'm never convinced people care about your shipping preferences nearly as much as people seem to want to believe they do. The vast majority of people who aren't interested in what you write just read something else. I know I do.

I don't think that is quite true. I write and I am pretty unknown. but I get the rudest comments on some of my fics, and in my ask box on tumblr, about what I write/should write/ how I write etc etc.

rude people are rude, whether you are well known or not.

Eeeh. I think that can depend on the fandom and the ship. Like, in a fandom where there's shipping wars or even just really overly invested shippers, you can wind up getting harassed even if you aren't a big name. Also, if you have a controversial ship, you can wind up getting harassed. I'm in a fandom that has an incest ship, and even people who are only casually involved will get people coming through and shitting on them for being "disgusting" and "evil" and "problematic." And about a decade ago, I was in a fandom with a terrible ship war, where you were asking for trouble if you basically posted any shipfic at all.

That said, most of the time you're right.
