Why do so many people think shipping preferences MUST correlate with sexual orientation anyway? Jesus.

You're not doing anything wrong, OP.

Maybe you relate better to female characters and need at least one in a story to enjoy it. That doesn't mean you aren't attracted to men.

I'd actually say you're writing femmeslash for the RIGHT reasons -- because the character dynamics appeal to you.

People who write it just for brownie points to prove how much they care about ~representation~ without actually being into the pairings are the ones who are full of it.

I've read m/m slash written by lesbian writers that was actually pretty damn good. I don't know what they're getting out of it, but clearly it's SOMETHING, because I can't believe you'd write those stories (for no money no less) if it left you entirely cold.

Look, write what makes you happy, and identify as what you feel is right for you. Frankly, it's nobody's business, humans are complex creatures, and that's okay. If people give you shit over free stories you write for them, they're assholes.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-20 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds to me like your head's on straight, it's other people who are being wrongheaded. Write what works for you,Op.

I completely understand you on not being interested in stories without female characters. I have a few slash ships I like but I never seek out fanfiction for them. I only read about my het or femmeslash ships.

Oh, and fuck everyone who give you some line about "wasting your talent". Write what you like and I'm sure your readers are glad that what you want to write just happens to be what they want to read.

I honestly don't get why you need people to believe you write a pairing for any other reason than you like it. If it bothers other fans so much… they don't have to read it.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-20 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Like what you like, OP. I'm a straight girl who watches lesbian porn with her husband because girls at physically prettier. Its nobody else's business.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Who the fuck are these people saying you're "wasting your talent" and that "femmeslash is nasty" and can I please smack them?

Writing what you want to write is not a "waste of your talents", and anyone who thinks that writing femmeslash specifically is a waste of talent is an asshole.

who the fuck thinks writing femslash is nasty or a waste? what a weird attitude.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you're new to slash or if this is just an older fandom thing but it was always a joke that the majority (or at least a good chunk) of slash/yaoi fandom was lesbians anyway. so your not being into women irl doesn't seem that surprising.

1. People who give you shit about what you write are stupid. You sound ok OP.

2. I'm not really interested in stories that feature women. I really wish we could all say what we like and don't like without people jumping to assumptions on character or justifying why they're "right" and someone else is "wrong."

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much straight and a woman, and basically the only romance i want to read about lately is two women. keep writing OP!

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
You keep doing what you want to do, OP. It doesn't change your orientation or who you are. Just because you write femslash doesn't mean that you're a lesbian. I write slash but I certainly don't want to become a guy or anything like that. Just keep doing what makes you happy and fuck the haters.

Late to the party, but I wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the comments I've received so far. :)

(Honestly, I was more than half expecting a bunch of people to jump down my throat with accusations of misandry, or something.)

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be honest OP, you seem like a nice person, but I think this whenever I see this sort of comment.

People do not care nearly as much about your shipping preferences as you think they do. The vast, vast majority of people do not give two shits about what you ship or why you ship it.

(The only exception is if you are a BNF, in which case people care a lot about what you think, but that extends to all sorts of things.)

So much WTF.

I'm not sure which idea is more wtf-inducing: that you're "wasting" your talent by writing what you want, or that preferring f/f stories to m/m is somehow homophobic.

Keep on writing stories that you enjoy, OP. Life is too short to worry about the haters.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hey the femslash shippers appreciate it.

If people only read and wrote about the things that they are the world would be a boring place.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm exactly the same. Love het and femslash but have no real interest in m/m slash ships, because it's the female characters I'm interested in. And I'm a straight female.

So ... you're not alone.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
it weirds me out that people think that way.

I am a bi woman, but I only like writing and reading male slash.

I don't think there is a problem with that. And I love the fact that fandom has readers and writers for everything. Not to say you haven't had that experience: I am sure you have. People... especially tumblr people (I have found), are so freaking judgemental.

I'm sorry you feel like that.
