See, the word for that stuff is spoilers. Once it is aired it is no longer a spoiler, just something you personally have not seen. Its mere common knowledge. Keep using spoilers correctly, and work on getting the idiots in fandom to try and use it correctly too.

So then in your view, when the sixth Harry Potter book was released, people who were posting in the Internet, or putting up highway signs, or yelling at people standing in line for the book, about how Snape killed Dumbledore did nothing wrong?

After all, they got the book legally and it had already been released, so it seems to pass your test.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not a damn thing. And if people had stopped being so OTT in their reactions they would have stopped in short order.

That is why I'm not marking this post for spoilers Harry Potter booksix. If you believed they were doing something wrong, how come you didn't? Double standards much?

because common sense? days/weeks after a book comes out =/= many years after a book comes out

Also way to put the onus for people not being assholes on the recipients of the assholish behavior.

That is what the assholes who insist people censor their behavior for the benefit of the first group always do. If you don't want to see spoilers, that is on you to avoid them. Totally on you. Nobody else. Be courteous, and do not demand other people alter their lives for your sake.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
So I guess asking some people to not be assholes is too much? Of course it is. Stupid question.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I've tried asking people not to be assholes, but Diet Poison keeps on being one nonetheless.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Wtf, diet poison is one of the nicest people on here

Ah, so you are one of the anons from the other day...

I don't even know what to say to you to not make you angry. I think my stance is pretty reasonable and I was pretty reasonable throughout that whole discussion. *shrug*

Refraining from deliberately spoiling a major installment in a very popular book series within days of its release isn't altering your life for anyone, unless I guess the point of your life is to go around being an asshole. Not to mention there is literally no way to avoid that unless you think people should literally board themselves up in their room, not talk to a single human being either online or irl, and do nothing but read until they've finished the book - which may not even be possible if they have work or classes. (Not to mention that principle applies to every other instance of people being an asshole for no reason - why should other people rearrange their lives to avoid them when it would take so little effort to just not be an asshole)

...I mean, that is what we're talking about, isn't it? Or are you one of the anons from the other day and this is really about something else...?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, at this point I don't even know any more. Would it kill you to quote the post you are replying to once a thread has formed.

Fair enough then. I think your answer is insane and clearly wrong but I appreciate your consistency.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise on all counts. I wish you a Merry Christmas good sir or madam.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2014-12-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not really though. Spoilers isn't a universal thing, it's a personal thing - if someone finds out what happens before they get to it, that's a spoiler (of course this may or may not upset them, may or may not have been done intentionally, may or may not be a long time after its release, etc.)

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
You also think people who spoils all the plot points of a movie in the line or the theater before the damn movie starts are doing an ok-thing unless is the first premier in the whole word?

That has happened to me three times this year. I'm honestly thinking on giving up going to the movies thanks to that.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2014-12-23 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, seriously? That's never happened to me but then I don't go to movies very often (and I *have* had other stuff deliberately spoiled). That's...wow.

And movie tickets are so damn expensive :/

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, yes.

It's seems like the new trend is to go to a movie and before it starts, boast in a very loud voice about knowing the source material (or this being the second time they watch the movie) by talking about most important plot points.
diet_poison: (Default)

[personal profile] diet_poison 2014-12-23 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That just makes me really glad I don't go to movies very much anymore.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
People coming out of a showing are going to want to talk about what they've seen, if you are in line for a later showing then that is your problem. If you truly wanted too be spoiler free you'd be in the first showing. Same with people who have already seen it, or who wish to talk about the upcoming points they want to see. Get the early showing, otherwise accept others will be discussing it. It is only a fucking movie, darling.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
They're talking about people deliberately spoiling a film, not people simple discussing it.

You seem to be very against courtesy. You also seem to have the terms "polite" and "rude" in your head. It seems you take the classic abuser tact: YOU'RE not the asshole, the people who want you to stop being a jerk to them are assholes. You get to behave however you want, and if someone says, "hey, you're hurting me," you have a reason to hurt them even more.

You're a bad person, though, and no amount of trying to make other people responsible for YOUR actions will ever change that.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-23 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
(AYRT)
Erm, no, I'm not talking about people discussing the movie after it, I'm talking about people talking about it BEFORE the show, either in the line to go in or in the theater itself and talking in a deliberate loud voice so not just people close to them hear them.
diet_poison: (Default)

[personal profile] diet_poison 2014-12-23 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You're really obtuse. Something tells me it's deliberate. What part of someone purposefully shouting out spoilers to the seated audience before the movie begins somehow translates into talking about it with their friends on the way out of the theater?

Also, do you have a magical solution for people who CAN'T go to the first showing, because they have work or classes or a sleep disorder or a wedding or a funeral or something else that conflicts with it?

C'mon d_p, if they REALLY cared and were REALLY a fan then they'd cancel all of their plans and do whatever it took to get to that first showing!!!!!!

This person's either just a dick or a troll, man. There ain't no talking with 'em.
