That one fic...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
If you could have one story written for every pairing you like and every pairing you will come to like, what would it be? Basically, what's that one story that you could have told over and over again with different characters and be satisfied?

(Story, not a scene.)

Re: That one fic...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
There...isn't one? Because the characters I like aren't carbon copies of each other and thereby have different contexts in which they view the world and would respond differently...

(Sorry if I'm a buzzkill on your idea, but that's how I feel about it.)

I'm always curious about people who feel the need to respond to topics that clearly don't fit them. Obviously this isn't going to be true for everyone. That's true of a lot of topics. What's the point of saying the obvious?

Re: That one fic...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
So that people know that THEY DON'T LIKE THIS TOPIC

Oops, sorry post police. Didn't realize this wasn't a place for discussing things from angles.

Are you kidding? So we're only supposed to comment on things we 100% agree with now? Fuck that.

I'm glad the AYRT posted. I agree with them.

I love arranged marriage fic, the whole "first comes marriage then comes love" trope. I don't even know why... I think it's part of my liking for friendship and family fic, like there's not as much lust or infatuation involved as 'you and me against the world' slowly building to love. Similarly, I love "required to coparent" trope.

This might be mine, too, if I had to pick one.

Or, well, it wouldn't have to be arranged marriage, but in general, a situation where they were forced to work/live/otherwise exist together - bonus points if they don't like each other at first.

Any recs?

I WISH I had fandom recs. Mostly I scratch this itch with terrible romance novels (surprisingly common in 'inspirational'/Christian romance novels).

A long hurt/comfort fic. Heavy on both. Long and ending in some good smut. Can't think of any in particular. Maybe a good mob!AU with some kidnapping.

Adventure fic and relaxing at home fic.

Re: That one fic...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, there's not one for me. I like about five pairings and they're really different so the same trope would be weird if applied to all of them.

One story I like that fits most fandoms is zombie apocalypse fic.

Re: That one fic...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Funny because my fandom involves a zombie apocalypse, but I'm a sucker for non-zombie AU's.

Super-long plotty adventure fic with ultra slow-burn rivals to friends to romance.

I think all my ships deserve to star in all the most cliche tropes, from coffeeshopAU to abo. Difficult to pick one...
Hmm, Detective Noir AU.

I'm not as interested in pairings as I used to be (and I don't read much fanfic) but ... for pairing fics I'd say, "There's mutual attraction/interest but each thinks the other isn't intererested or that it will never work for reasons (which are based on incorrect assumptions) and after a number of instances of bad timing / miscommunication they finally get on the same wavelength / tell the truth / overcome the obstacles."

In general this can be summed up by "Earn Your Happy Ending" I guess?

oh christ it's the pit fight au for me

you know, that one fic where someone gets kidnapped and has to fight to the death with some other poor fuck who also got kidnapped and doesn't want to be there, and eventually they escape or get broken out and have to deal with re-integrating into society knowing what they can do if pushed to the wall and also on a hair-trigger stab-first-ask-questions-never survival reflex

then there's the shipping variant where it's pit fight teams

i will read this fic for fandoms i'm not even in you don't even know

This sounds amazing and intense. Have you got any recs? Not picky about fandom.

Two people go through a bunch of really awful physical/emotional shit and the only way to get over it is lots of lavishly described cuddling and domesticity

What can I say, h/c is a model that works for me.

Time or dimension travel. So hard to find good ones, but so worth it when I do.

...a person seeing the other one in pain and starts to help out and kind of wiggles into the other persons life. Could be gen or romantic. I.e two adults that blooms into romance versus a child helping an adult like in UP.
Some disparity between the two with the ""weaker perceived"" person being the one string enough to help etc

Is the main gist, there's the version here and there I don't like but on the whole I enjoy it.
