11-12; I'd get the sex/prostitution newspaper from vending machines. When I was 14, I was tall enough to get Penthouse Variations at the 7-11 where they never checked ID. When I was 15, we got the internet, and it was all specialty BBSes and uudecode programs for Usenet files.

Wow, you just reminded me that "personals" actually used to be printed in newspapers. Those sure were the days.

So... back in the days of yore and the printed word, you were able to get personal ads in news magazines. They tended not to print them in the local paper, but there were whole flyers you could get that were essentially a few cover stories and then pages upon pages of ads for "escorts" or "massages" or what have you.

They would also have the same type of thing you'd see on craigslist now. SWF seeking SWM or SWM seeking SWM...

They could get really graphic and detailed about fetish stuff too, since they were paying for ad space and they usually really wanted someone to reply.

AYRT

My area had a big enough sex industry that it had its own newspaper. Porn reviews, stripper interviews, and 75% ads, both personal and professional, and a lot of stuff that kind of fell into both categories. Thin soup by today's standards, but more than enough to fuel my pubescent wanker's cramp.
