I'm not sure what it says about me, but I'm actually a little baffled by this secret. People who are sexually attracted to an actor are going to talk about her/him sexually. They've always been doing this; they were doing it before tumblr and before the internet. And it sounds like these particular fans recognize the difference between fantasy and reality, so...I'm kind of like, "...huh?"

There's a line between aesthetic and sexual attraction though. I could think a guy's pretty good looking, but I might not be gung ho about the idea of sucking his dick or stuff like that.

Oh, yeah, I think there's definitely a difference between viewing someone as attractive and viewing her/him as sexually attractive. I just expect people who are sexually attracted to someone to talk/fantasize about that person in a specific way, so it doesn't surprise or phase me.

And you know, I find that, when thinking about this, I've got two opposing impulses: I can see sort of see where OP's coming from, but I also think that, because her/his fandom isn't doing anything that would actually harm the person involved, it's not a big deal. I want to say, "OP, I understand," but I also want to say, "OP, you've got to relax."

I think the OP is talking about commentary that can get a bit graphic. Personally, when people reblog pictures of actors with things like, "UNF, I'd happily take a pounding from that bulge!" or "I just want to sit on his face for hours," I get a little uncomfortable. Not saying those people should censor themselves or anything, just that I see why the OP would get uncomfortable with it.

Is it the content that makes you uncomfortable or the fact that it's a real person?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-07 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
For me, personally, it's the public nature of it. Sure, I'm sexually attracted to people, but I don't just say to my friends in public, "I want to fuck his mouth with a strap-on until he chokes." In a private exchange, or a locked twitter or DW post, maybe. I have a very strong line between public and private.

I know not everyone has the same feelings, however, and I'd not ever tell anyone to stop--they're free to post what they want. But it does make me uncomfortable personally to read.

This might be a key insight. I think a lot of people don't think of fandom as being "public."

(Anonymous) 2015-01-07 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if [celebrity] can read your open Tumblr, fandom is public. Hence... it's not actually very appropriate to share sexually explicit thoughts about [celebrity] where he/she can see it.

Yeah, but [celebrity] probably has better things to do. Like... being a celebrity. Chances are they aren't going to stumble on it.

nayrt

"Stumbling upon it" is probably unlikely, I agree.

Journalist/interviewer/other fan thinking it would be fun/amusing to show it to said celebrity, to show them how "weird" their fandom/fans are, is not as unlikely unfortunately.

From what I've read/heard in interviews I gather that goes on quite a bit. I think it's mostly fanfic which is shoved in the poor guys faces but anything said in an open/unlocked forum is probably fair game to these people.

I want to fuck his mouth with a strap-on until he chokes

...well, maybe you should talk about it more, because that's hot.
