You need to pull your head out of your ass and pay a little more attention to what's happening on screen and going on with your mom.

1) they are paying attention to what's happening on the screen. That's why they noticed the plotholes.

2) they are paying attention to their mom, and humoring her, and coming to a place on the internet known for letting shit out to let out the frustration that their mom's favorite show really annoys them, since they're a good kid and don't bring it up with her, because BREAST CANCER.

Eh, I really liked the first season because it as a new take on the character. But I was so meh about the last season. Once the novelty wears off, the plot holes start showing.

Agree about BBC/Cumberbatch Sherlock - definitely slappable and very far from canon. On the other hand, many of Arthur Conan Doyle's original plots aren't exactly what one would call plausible either.

But, you know, your mum can fangirl all she likes. You just don't happen to share her unqualified love. It happens.

I'm with you, anon. The plot of Reichenbach especially made no sense whatsoever. And I'm not fond of that portrayal of Sherlock. But I'm glad your mom has something to be fannish about and is sharing it with you. Find her some wonderful tumblr art. There's some really great stuff you can be introducing her to.

When my mom was sick I was so very desperate to find anything, just anything at all to comfort her.

Forgot to say: hang in there. And take care of yourself, too.

i really don't have any isses with sherlock except for the episodes where sherlock is massively ooc (sib, hlv). it's not a terribly clever show but why does it have to be? i'm fine with it being nothing more than fun.

I'm with you, OP. I wanted to like this show too, but the writing is abysmal and full of giant plot holes. It's clear to me that the creators/writers hope to dazzle their audience with humor and sexy detective so they won't notice how irrational everything is and at the end of the day, that feels really condescending.

I'm glad it's getting your mother through chemo, though. Maybe something silly to take her mind off it is not such a bad thing, and you're a good kid for being with her through it all.

My woobie Sherlock!!1

Hm, I like Sherlock even though I'm a Lestrad fan. Sherlock's not evil. He's rather helpfull actually. He's not even that rude. It seems that he's just not your type of character, but calling him evil is a plain headcanon.
The stuff with Moriarty is not that illogical compared to season 3. Haha.
All the best wishes with the illness.

I mostly like Sherlock for all the flashy coolness that happens all the time. Yeah it doesn't make any sense, but look! High speed chase on a motorbike! I'm never bothered by plotholes as long as the thing is cool enough to impress me, personally. I don't think Sherlock's plotholes are on a different level from your average action series/film/whathaveyou, although I get you on having to put up with it for your mother's sake.

The third season was another level on crappiness though js

Everyone in this series overacts dreadfully. Even Freeman. And especially... you know who who must not be named.

I'm one of those who doesn't scrutinize the shits out of tv shows/movies and just enjoys them for what they are, and if there is an intended unanswered question(s) or too many plot holes, I can easily ignore them and not bother much, so, I pretty much can't say a lot about what you thought of Sherlock since I really love it, but I totally understand your annoyance about that Smaug thing. I actually cringed just reading that, wut even.

Secret-Maker: Thanks everyone for their good wishes!

Image: Sherlock from the BBC’s Sherlock, looking irritated.
Text: I really wanted to like this show. It’s my mother’s favorite and it’s been helping her get through her breast cancer. (She had a 9-episode marathon as soon as she found out and watches it on her iPad at chemo.) I started watching it with her to make her feel better after having avoided it for a long time… and wow have I never been so disappointed in a show after so much hype. I mean the plots are just complete nonsense. They make ‘70s Bond movies seem plausible. And they’ve made Sherlock into such an utterly horrible human being. He seems more like a villain than a protagonist. All those MUH WOOBIE fangirls seem like the type that stan the Joker.

“But I could change him!” No you couldn’t.

(I wanted to buy a dragon ornament for our tree. My mom said we could get it if we named it Smaug. I thought “Wow, is my mom getting into Tolkien, too?” No, she wanted to name it after “Benny.” And she complained about the third Hobbit movie killing “Benny off too quickly. *Sigh*)

(Just so I have this straight: Moriarty managed a second career on a TV sho without anyone recognizing him at his trial? And he managed to convince everyone Sherlock really committed all those crimes he investigated? So all those people sitting in jail after having confessed, Sherlock is suppose to have paid to speand their lives locked up? Is that what the police thought? That dozens of people would agree to be arrested for crimes they didn’t commit? Why didn’t John suggest talking to these people? What about the Hound incident? Do they think Sherlock killed the guy’s father when he was a kid and has been tormenting him with Scarecrow gas ever since? Or that Scarecrow gas guy and murdered father guy were both paid actors, one of whom infiltrated a military base? Could anyone be that stupid?)

While it's not my favorite show either, you're overreacting. Stanning Sherlock is like stanning the Joker, really? A quirky crime-solving show isn't totally authentic, no kidding? Hyperbole on the overhyped, what will fandom!secrets think of next.

Just wanted to say: regardless of what she's watching, and you, therefore, are forced to watch with her, moments with your mother when she is happy and has been taken out of her terrible situation will be precious memories to you in the future. {Speaking from experience}

(Anonymous) 2015-01-08 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, unless Sherlock is absolutely the only show she ever watches why not find something else to watch together that you can both enjoy.
