Then go write your own story. Go support writers who write about fat lesbians in a way you like. Why should writers have to write about anything they don't care to write about? It's beyond ridiculous that people think that should be the case.

How dare you want somebody to write something they don't care to write? Genuinely. That's fucking stupid and extremely arrogant. Nobody should be required or even encouraged to cater to you, that is NOT what writing is about. People write what they want to write, and if you enjoy it, good for you. If you're complaining that you don't enjoy anything, then you need to get off your butt and do something about it. If you don't write, try sponsoring somebody who does want to write things you want to read. But no, you'd rather just complain.

News flash: people write stuff they don't care about all the time. That's literally how publishing works right now. You cater to a crowd because you want to be paid or deal with having no audience.

It must be nice living in a world of such privilege where you can just say, "DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE YOU'LL 100% SUCCEED IF YOU TRY AND PEOPLE ONLY WRITE WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT!"

That's not how the world works. Quit pretending it does.

It's not like they're trying to force one specific author to write about fat lesbians, lol. They're saying that they wish someone (ideally, someone who actually wants to) would write about fat lesbians. I doubt you'd be reacting this way if if someone had rattled off a six paragraph essay on the extremely specific desires they have for a 1200-page cyberpunk space opera featuring, among many many many other things, slavishly described weapons and technology. You probably wouldn't even spare such a comment a second glance. But because this person is wishing for something you view as too ~soshul justice-y~ you act like they're a rug-munching Annie Wilkes, looming over the publishing industry with an axe.

People express their wishes for fiction all the time, and they don't get told "well, just go make it yourself then! you just want to force someone to write this for you, how arrogant!" unless their wishes happen to include one too many words that the internet deems too ~~Tumblrina... as if SJW clicktivists invented the concepts of being fat and/or a lesbian.

there's nothing wrong with what you're saying. the problem arises when people start saying it's not okay for writers to have an all white cast, or an all male cast or whatever. writers can and should write what they want. it's completely okay for them to not want to write about lesbians or whatever else. if people want more diversity then the only reasonable and sound thing for them to do is do it themselves, or find people who are doing it and support them.
