(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)2) Related, just because B and C have a deeper and more important relationship than A and B, doesn't really mean anything. For more real life people than Hollywood implies, friendships outlast and are stronger than their romantic relationships. Of course, *if* you're interpreting the story as a contest of "which relationship, if romantic, would be the best one?" then sure, B/C would be more appealing than A/B. But that's a big "if."
3) To echo the two commenters above me, lol, you *do* realize fans have been saying the exact thing you're saying for decades upon decades, right?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 12:31 am (UTC)(link)That's the example I always bring up and it's a cheap one but honestly? I think it cuts all the points you're making to shreds. It's intended as a TRUE LOVE story, but with the way they (especially Edward) behave? It isn't.
You can tell me a million times that they love each other.
You can show them kissing.
You can have declarations of love.
You can have the author saying it over and over in interviews.
But given how Edward treats Bella I do not believe it in the slightest. And I don't think I should be forced to "accept" that Edward (or Character B) is in love with Bella (or Character A) when every shred of evidence in the work itself contradicts this claim.
That's all I'm saying.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 12:50 am (UTC)(link)If you want people to ship a particular pairing, show it in your writing. Make us believe it, because telling is just plain lazy writing.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 05:54 am (UTC)(link)And yes it is canon, regardless of how we might wish otherwise. I would never, ever say "every shred of evidence contradicts this claim." That sounds like the words of a disappointed shipper.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)NEVER say that this is love -- this is the type of logic that abused people use to justify staying with their abusers. NO. Someone who loves you will NOT treat you the way Edward treats Bella.
If Edward goes and gets therapy and goes back to Bella and treats her right -- then, yes, that's love. But that NEVER happens in the book.
And no matter what Meyer says, nothing changes the fact that what she wrote is NOT demonstrative of two people in love.
