I don't know why but I've got a hate-on for her. It's really odd. I don't care about any of the Marvel movies but I just can't with her. That's basically all I got out of the first movie (the second movie, I didn't care either way about her but her scene wasn't the huge moving moment I'd been expecting from the way people talk about it online).

I love her but, in fairness, she does have a few poor scenes.

The scene where she shoots at Steve is one I loathe.

I know some people don't like the scene where she punches the dude. But honestly, I think that, realistically, Peggy knew she had to establish early on that she would NOT in any way shape or form take any bullshit or backtalk from the men. So I personally feel she was completely justified there.

Yeah, the shooting scene was one I couldn't go back after. I just closed off completely.

da

There are other ways to show authority besides punching someone in the face. That scene rubbed me the wrong way because it felt like the writers were trying to hard to show us that she was a Strong Female Character. Because the only way women can be strong is if they can knock around their subordinates, apparently. Even if they guy "deserved it," it still wasn't the right thing to do, imo.

And I agree with you on the shooting scene. Ugh. That scene encompasses everything that irritates me about her.

I get what you're saying. Normally such a scene (the punching scene) would piss me off too.

What made it passable for me, I suppose, was that the movie takes place in the 1940s and Peggy is basically with a bunch of military recruits. I think, in that context, Peggy knew she had to show them that she could beat their asses and take care of herself. This isn't a situation where just saying something would have gotten the point across nearly as well. No matter what she said, I can see men just laughing her off as a silly woman.

When she punches the guy out though, they can't pretend that he didn't go down.

So I understand why she did it.

But I agree in modern day settings it would annoy me because I think we do have more alternatives today than Peggy had.

But I do maintain that the shooting scene is awful.

I really like Peggy, and part of that is because of how different she is from some of the other female characters in the MCU. She's a fighter, clearly, but that's not her specialty (no fancy martial arts there) and she tries other methods first unless she's actually pissed off. I enjoy that she has a temper, and I'm willing to bet that punching the army recruit was half motivated by logic and half motivated by anger. Either way, I'm fine with it. :)

Oh, I am so glad to see other people not taking to Peggy after the shooting scene. After that happened, I pretty much lost interest in her and how she was written, and from the looks of everyone reblogging Agent Carter on my dash, nothing has changed and there is no reason for me to give the character my time.
