AO3 is 10000+ times better than ff.net and it is easier to find things on tumblr- but I miss the discussions. None of these platforms are good for it.

my thoughts exactly

How is it easier to find anything on tumblr? It's always a huge mess whenever I try to find anything.

How exactly did you go about finding things on LJ when there wasn't a dedicated community for your fandom/ship/character?

Forums. FFN. DA.

Hung out in fandoms with a population higher than 3.

Tumblr has both tag and search feature where you can search specifically for what your looking for.

On the search feature it lists a bunch of blogs that match what your looking for and also combs through every post on tumblr that has that word in the post whether they tagged it or not. Whereas the tagged feature just searches for people who who used the tag.

It is by far the easiest way to find fanart, fic, commentary, and other fans.

A lot of people on tumblr won't tag anymore either for fear of or having SJW's down their neck, or because whatever they are posting/reposting is being taken down by Tumblr themselves. So if you don't know the good people on tumblr or find them through a friend, you're sol.

How does that make Tumblr any better now?

I find tumblr's search function so bad that I routinely search on for stuff on it through google. I google "search term" + "tumblr". So it works, in a way, just not directly.

There's tons of people I follow who don't tag their shit. If I hadn't known them through LJ I'd never have found their tumblrs. There's tons of people who follow me and don't tag their shit. Whenever someone reblogs something I've made it's 50/50 whether they use any tag or not. So don't tell me about how wonderful tumblr is because everything's tagged when that's clearly not true. And there's people you start to follow because they tagged some shit that you could find via search, but then they reblog NSFW stuff untagged.

Also, at least LJ re-directed you when people changed their usernames.

Reblogged posts don't show up in searches regardless of whether or not they are tagged, so I don't understand why you think that people not adding tags to reblogged posts contributes to tumblr being difficult to search.

Tumblr would be perfect if you could only stick with the name you first registered with and added some kind of feature where you have have discussions for each post.

Really the only way to read commentary is to get a tag reader, but that is really tedious.
