I've definitely accidentally killed a sim or two (even now after over ten years of playing). But, to not be able to play at all because my sims keep dying? Sounds like you aren't so great at the micro-managing aspect of the game. And Sims 3 makes it incredibly hard to kill them, so you must be really awful at paying attention to your sims needs if you are killing them in Sims 3.

Never accidentally killed a Sim through needs neglect in Sims 3, though I have in Sims 2. The easiest way to accidentally kill a sim in Sims 3 is to have them use the invention bench. Inventors are highly inflammable.

What's the death rate with that item? (Is it actually called the invention bench? Isn't there a workbench or something? idr)

Idk exactly what it's called. It's the workbench you use to do your inventing and CATCHING ON FIRE. I've quit with out saving many a times because of that damn thing. Just remember to have a shower or a friend nearby to put out your flaming ass and you'll be okay.

The Sims needs fire extinguishers. I'd automatically include one in every house (along with a smoke detector and burglar alarm).

...of course, given the way Sims respond to fire, there might not be much point...

We'll, they keep they fire extinguishers in the same place they keep their mops (their pocket, or their ass if that's how you want to see it). But yeah, they don't respond very well to fire in the first place. In the Sims 3, if you are a firefighter or have the brave trait, you don't panic at the sight of a fire and immediately put it out. Having a brave sim around is rather handy for that. Their are ceiling sprinklers in the sims as well (I think 2, but they may be in 3 too).

*giggles*

Yeah they have all kinds of stuff in their...orifices?...and it reminds me of Link and his magic storage bag (I don't remember if that's a real thing or if I made it up but really, iron boots? in storage? not weighing anything??).

I don't remember the ceiling sprinklers. I do remember the brave thing but I'd forgotten about it. I need to get 3 again, I had it and lost the disc, and now I want to get it on Steam but I'll wait for a sale. I'm skipping 4 for obvious reasons, but I want something a little more complex that 2 even though 2 is really good (also I only have 2 on Origin and I hate Origin).

I've been hankering to play lately and now I really wish I already had 3 xD;

If you have World Adventures and you've been off to one of the vacation regions, you could have come back with spare "Shower-In-Can"s in your sim's inventory. They work as fire extinguishers for burning sims.
