Because there has been more than one wave of purges on LJ because someone that wasn't even friended to an account got upset over something they found offensive. Imagine having your whole account deleted without so much as a by-your-leave because you posted a drawing of a fictional character that looked like they might be underage unclothed or even engaged in some sexual act.

I run a fic exchange comm and I seem to spend my entire life checking that prospective members have an age statement before I approve their request to join. That way, in theory, by f-locking R and above-rated stories, I'm not allowing underage readers to read our members' adult fics and, with a bit of luck, I'm protecting our archive from future purging.
