I think the only complaint against tumblr I can understand is that it doesn't offer a cohesive platform for discussion. There are discussions, but unless your familiar with the site it's hard to follow. Also the only way you can read peoples thoughts on a post is if you have a tag reader.

But I still think tumblr is the best site to find other fans and their thoughts on stuff. Once you get the hang of it.

People seem confused about how to search or find stuff. It's simple, 'search' and 'tagged' gives you different results.

When you have tumblr.com/search/[insert keyword here] you'll get every post that contains that keyword whether it was tagged or not. This lets you see everything unfiltered which might lead to some hidden gems. It displays the recent popular posts first then gets down to most popular of all-time and so on. But if you have tumblr.com/search/[insert keyword here]/recent it will show recent updates first, regardless of the posts popularity.

When you have tumblr.com/tagged/[insert keyword here] then it just has stuff that people meant to put in that tag and most recently updated stuff is on top. You also have the option of tracking tags and see when they get updated.

For the tagged function only the first 5 (or 6?) tags will make it show up in the results. However for search it will show everything whether it was tagged or even just mention in the post.

Search will have a bunch of blogs listed on top that might fit with whatever keyword your searching.

You seem to have ignored all the posts that say the search function simply does not work. That's not people's failings, that's a technical issue with the site, and Tumblr seems to care more about adding a few pixels to post widths than making it functional.

This. People who are pro tumblr on here seem to just want to pass technical issues off as people being anti-Tumblr. Which is funny because a lot of tumblr people complain about how shoddy the tags are, so I don't get why people are defending them here.

DA: Seriously. I love Tumblr, but going into tags is like playing a weird mix of Russian and Japanese Roulette - and that's with XKit fully customized.

I only bother to track tags are if they're either super-specific or don't get much use.
