Re: Where has all the discussion gone?

Facebook contributed but this just reminds me that I kind of blame twitter for the downfall as well. Twitter really started the whole "talking into the void" thing and gave you a true character limit so anyone writing even just a paragraph had to write it in PARTS (which in twitter's format is a pain in the ass to read.)

I never really used either for fandom myself and I don't understand how people could.

AYRT

Yeah, Twitter's formatting contributed as well. I just tend to block it out since Twitter has lost its luster for me lately. The way I see it, both platforms changed how people discuss all subjects online. I admit it can be fun to watch people spazz out over crime solving ponies on Last Week Tonight's social media channels (yes, I'm that anon), but that's the most I ever use social media for fan-like activity. Otherwise, I never really used them for fandom purposes.

If I had to guess, I'd say that's how a lot of people first found fandom. I think for all there's people who've been into fandoms since the days of AOL and hell, even usenet, there's also people who really only heard of fandom two years ago, but were on Facebook and twitter from the beginning. So they don't even know there's another way.
