Original Maleficent is certainly the most badass. I mean, she's ferocious and dark and evil and also a dragon shape-shifter.

Does she have the best character? I mean, there's not really any depth besides EVIL so if that's what you mean, then definitely not.

Yeah, she's usually considered the Queen of the Disney Villains because of her badassitude and the sheer scope of her powers and flair for the dramatic. Also, you know, cursing a child to death for no reason other than she wasn't invited to the party.

Also Fantasmic! and Kingdom Hearts.

I think they had a lot to do with it.

It does hold true for a sidhe to curse a child because they weren't invited to the party, but the original Sleeping Beauty movie doesn't give any sign of that, so it feels even more pointless.

That's why I like that Kingdom Hearts has pointed out she's a fairy. As in, people CALL her a fairy.

Yeah, that makes it make more sense, and by the time KH came out the general public probably knew at least a little about classic fairy legends where instead of being cutesy and nice, they could be downright dangerous in their mischief.

She did have a fantastic voice and she did transform in a dragon. I mean, who else transforms in a dragon?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-20 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Also, she was outright fueled by the powers of Hell.

That's some pretty hardcore villainy.

She has the same voice as the evil stepmother from Cinderella!

I didn't know that. Now that I think about it, the Stepmother was another fantastic villain (although I don't remember that we ever got a motive for her hatred of Cindy. Did we?)

I kinda wish we knew more about Maleficent's past history with the three fairies. These gals had history! They knew each other!

Disney has its problems, but it also has some awesome villains.

Once you realize it, it's pretty clear; they both have that velvety yet chilling voice!

Enh, I figured the Stepmother's hate, though never explicitly stated was because Cinderella wasn't "hers," and was a symbol of the father's love and relationships before Stepmother came around. Or Cindy could be a symbol of the man's death and loss, which the stepmother deals with by making her as miserable as possible.

Or you know, she's just a jerk.

Those are all great potential motivations and now I want fanfic of the wicked Stepmother.

Well, I AM opening a writeathon on Feb. 1st... and even I know Cinderella well enough to write fic for it!
iceyred: By singlestar1990 (Default)

[personal profile] iceyred 2015-01-20 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
If I gave you puppy eyes would you write it and send me a link?

How's this. On Feb. 1st, you just come on down to my DW and leave your prompt. (My welcome post will say when the next writeathon opens, and when it does, there will be a link, very easy to find.) I'll then write it and respond in the thread there.

I do it this way so I have everything all in one place, and also because I have lurkers who buy fic, but never ever prompt. Keeping the prompts and fics all in one place makes it easier for them to know what's for sale, plus it spares my memory, because sometimes I get like, twenty different people prompting. Keeping track of who wants what when it's scattered all over the Internet is too much.

If you'd like to get a hint about what writeathons are like, the bonus perks you can get, or stories past, you can check out my writeathons tag!

Who's Madame Leota?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-20 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
the decapitated psychic from the Haunted Mansion attraction (a Haunted Mansion movie does not exist)

Ah, okay! I never really went on that ride, so no wonder I didn't recognize the name.

Madame Mim! Although she wasn't as badass as Maleficent.

How could I forget the Marvelous Mad Madam Mim? Truthfully, she was too campy for my tastes. I like my villains to be more villainous.

True, she was more silly than anything. I have a soft spot for that movie though.

Nerissa from Enchanted! Though I'm pretty sure that that was a deliberate homage to Malifacent. :D

[personal profile] iceyred 2015-01-20 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really consider Enchanted to be part of the Disney canon since most of it was live action. But you're right, I'm pretty sure she was paying due homage to Mal.
