I haven't seen either film but I do know the type of character you're referencing. It's what a poor writer considers a "strong" female character.

The type who verbally slams down other characters
Is physically violent
The smartest/most competent

These characters aren't so much characters as they are tokens. They're very rarely given a backstory or interesting characterization (weakness/flaws that have an impact on the plot, a character arc, etc.).

They're generic as fuck and boring. Yet somehow they garner tons of fans.

Reminds me of that stupid Van Helsing movie where they kept talking up the female lead as this strong, confident warrior who didn't need no man.

She won one fight in the movie. One fight. Against a midget.

DA

She had a nice (albeit somewhat impractical) outfit tho. I really liked that movie... :[

/Shrug. I remember it as being fairly generic 'sexy leather outfit' and impractical. It wasn't a bad movie, she was just a bad character.

I hated how she was capable of all this ridiculous wire-fu bullshit, getting flung around in ways that would kill Bruce Willis, and it not even harshing her curls, and then like, died of getting pressed against a couch. The hell.

Well she *was* in the way of Dracula and Van Helsings gay past life Angel Romance. I had an Angel Sanctuary Flashback right there.

"Yet somehow they garner tons of fans."...when they are male.

Corrected for you.
