What Manga Are You Following Right Now?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
In Print or Scanlation, no judgment. (I read scans of some of them first, then buy print when it reaches stateside.)

I got the first volume of Drug and Drop today. Am also following Skip Beat, Kimi Ni Todoke, Kaze Hikaru, Xxxholic Rei, Tsubasa: Nirakanai no Hen(?), and Natsume's Book of Friends. Oh, and I'm trying only digital-buying Say I Love You. It's actually the shortest follow list I've had in the 12 years since I discovered manga on that one shelf in Borders...

I usually don't pick up manga unless they're completed these days. I've been burned by waaaay too many authors. I don't know what's worse, axed endings or infinite hiatuses?

One however that I've been following and really hope will continue to be epic is Orange by Takano Ichigo. It's a time travel manga in the sense that the main character gets a letter from her future self and tries to change the present so one of her friends doesn't end up killing himself.

Also I need to catch up with Six Half, it's a little bit like your classic Amnesia manga only with a focus on character development vs straight up DRAMAAAA.

Finished both Ashizuri Suizokukan and Tetsuya Toyoda's Goggles recently. Both really good stuff and short (>15 chapters).

As for ongoing stuff, I've been liking Wakabayashi Toshiya’s 4-koma Collection, Kasane, and Shut Hell. Been meaning to catch up on Chi's Sweet Home too.

I wouldn't say I'm actively following it, but I'm occasionally checking in on the development of Kin no Kanojo Gin no Kanojo. "Didn't you just make a wish? 'This life sucks. Someone switch with me.' . . . The only person that can live your life is you yourself. That's why I made another you." There are so many directions this plot can go, and I have the horrible feeling it won't bother with any of them and will skip straight to the bland sex comedy.

I'm not following any ATM, but I will be reading the Boruto miniseries when it comes out. (And doing a recap of it, if anyone wants me to)

Pretty much all of the manga I'm following right now are via scanlations, though for the licensed series I buy the volumes of the ones I like when they come out (if I like it enough to buy it I pretty much always go looking for the scanlations to get caught up to current chapters). Right now for series that are caught up to the Japanese chapters and regularly released: Pandora Hearts, Tsubasa World Chronicle, Blue Exorcist, Attack on Titan, Assassination Classroom, Magi and Bleach (this one's basically just out of sheer stubborn obligation at this point. It's gotta end sometime, right?). Further behind and less frequently updated series there's Giant Killing, 7 Seeds, Brave10 and Akatsuki no Yona. (Also all the currently-running K Project tie-in manga that are being scanlated, so right now just The First and Lost Small World. I'm providing the raws of Countdown to someone on Tumblr who intends to scanlate it but I've gone through the first chapter some myself with my not-very-good Japanese. Trying to get through Gakuen K on my own a bit too, though I only own volume 2 right now.)

Is Blue Exorcist worth it? The premise certainly sounds cool. (I've heard it's monthly, but paced more like a weekly, which sounds like the sort of thing where I'd wait and do an archive binge.)

I'm enjoying it. I started reading the manga after watching the anime when it aired a few years back, the show was solid but in the usual fashion diverges from the manga in bad ways about halfway through. I personally find the cast very likeable (in particular I really like Rin, and I'm usually fairly lukewarm when it comes to shounen manga protagonists). It is a monthly series and I like it better this way because I think it does hold up better than if it was a weekly -- sometimes the battles stretch but so far I think it's done a decent job at keeping its focus on the leads rather than scattering a million battles all over the landscape the way something like Bleach tends to do. I'd say the pacing is probably fairly similar to Soul Eater's, if you've read that. There have been a couple arcs I wasn't fond of but it tends to pick itself up pretty well.

Well, I DID do a translation of a short Tales of Xillia porn doujinshi for some folks I know. I nearly ragequit a few times (I'm REALLY rusty) but I enjoyed it! And considering I know very little about Xillia, it was actually kinda cute.

Well, I was following Kuroko no Basuke (that finished, and I finished, but I hear there's a sequel?) and Haikyuu!!, but I fell behind.

God, I really need to start reading Haikyuu!! again, I miss it.

Skip Beat is really fun! I haven't caught up for a few years though since I've been leaning more towards tv than manga/comics these days.

I just started Senyuu. though. It's not drawn well, but it's hilarious. Tsukkomi type characters are my one true weakness, and it's kind of got a weird plot that reminds me of Homestuck, so this is rather perfect.

uh...the first chapter of Persona Q: Roundabout. If the other new PQ manga get translated I'll probably follow those too.

I don't read much manga these days. :c

I'll just go with the 'legal' titles since the scanlations I'm following is a long list. In no particular order:

Itsuwaribito
Blue Exorcist
Yukarism
Library Wars: Love and War
One Punch Man
D.Gray-Man (if it ever comes back from hiatus :( )
Seraph of the End
Ore-sama Teacher
