The problem with the Strong Female Characters is their role hasn't changed. They're still the sexy lamp everyone wants to have, or the prize the dude wins. It's just that they've gone from bland and sweet to sassy and action-grrrl. Because a strong action dude needs a strong action lamp, no boring Walmart specials for him. He's too good for that.

Until they stop being a lamp, painting flames on the sides doesn't actually change anything.

Yeah, this. Call me when there's a Strong Female Character who is wearing normal clothes and not played by a stunningly hot actress/drawn to look stunningly hot. That alone would change the dynamic so much.
