I will agree with you there.

I reacted to Sirius' death, because at the time the book came out I was actively in the fandom and I did like him. Harry however was always my central favourite. He's the one we got into the head of, so everything I read was usually about him, one way or another (and because I am a shippy shipper who ships, that often meant practically all the pairings I read were Harry/[someone]).

Since then? As I have drifted away from the fandom, then returned to read fanfic in between whatever my active fandom is, the one character who I still retained a strong enough attachment to, to really draw me back was Harry. I may read more het now than I did back in '03, but it's still pairings that are half Harry.
