I realize now that the only one I really gave a shit about was Harry. Didn't cry for any character death in that series except Sirius's and that was because of how Harry took it. And him going into the forest to die himself.

Not a popular opinion; most people I know don't seem to think of Harry as a character when choosing a favorite, it's more like he's a lens with which to view out than an actual character. But I adore him. We grew up together (literally -- age 11 when I read book 1, age 18 when I read book 7).

I actually agree with this.

I was shocked at Cedric's death but didn't really care about him

Had little reaction to Sirius, Remus, Tonks, Fred, Snape, Dobby, etc.

I had to go back and re-read Dumbledore's death, I remember, but I still didn't care.

And, yeah, I completely agree that Harry is really the only character I cared about.

I've noticed the same thing but I love Harry too.

I will agree with you there.

I reacted to Sirius' death, because at the time the book came out I was actively in the fandom and I did like him. Harry however was always my central favourite. He's the one we got into the head of, so everything I read was usually about him, one way or another (and because I am a shippy shipper who ships, that often meant practically all the pairings I read were Harry/[someone]).

Since then? As I have drifted away from the fandom, then returned to read fanfic in between whatever my active fandom is, the one character who I still retained a strong enough attachment to, to really draw me back was Harry. I may read more het now than I did back in '03, but it's still pairings that are half Harry.

Harry was my favorite, too (I'm also the rare fandom bird who disliked Hermione. Annoying ass pain.)
