Favorite Transformers series?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-22 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
G1? The movies? Prime? Are you the world's only other RID 2001 fan? (If so, please tell me!)

Animated first, G1 second, Beast Wars third.

Armada was my first, and is still my favourite.

Beast Wars is my all-time favorite, but the animation is sorely dated and a product of its time. 'Code of Hero' still makes me well up every time I watch it, so that makes up for the animation's shortcomings-in-hindsight.

TFAnimated is pretty good, too. I like the approach they took with it, and Sari Sumdac is the only companion character I haven't wanted to throttle. Bonus points for Lance Henrikssen as Lockdown. Mmmm...

And I think I would have liked Beast Machines more if it was its own, non-Transformers series. I thought some of the concepts (like techno-organics, which would later be explored in Animated, seeing as one of the showrunners from BM worked on it) were good in theory, but the execution and wholesale assassination of characterizations makes it difficult to rewatch. The animation is rather lovely, but that's about it.

Oh man, I hear you on Beast Wars. Me and some buddies watched it for Cartoon Night, and basically, those who hadn't seen it when it originally aired were unable to take the animation. It's painfully obvious that it was only the 2nd entirely CG cartoon to air in the US. Beast Machines was way slicker, but... well. It was Beast Machines.

Still, Rhinox was the BEST.

Yeah, I'd say Beast Wars has reached a G1-esque point, where some fans will admit/agree the animation is sorely lacking, but will make a point to say the story/stories are worth sticking it out for. I think so, at least.

I'd love to see another series done with the whole Maximal/Predacon group, if nothing else to make up for Beast Machines (either a wholesale reboot or continuation that ignores BM altogether), but I doubt we'll ever see one. At least the IDW comics, from my understanding, are starting to use BW characters to some extent.

And yes, Rhinox was awesome! Makes what happened to him in Beast Machines all the more infuriating, but ehhh... I think most fans have agreed that BM never happened, haha.

Yeah, I honestly have NO interest in most of the Transformers franchise. The reason I was able to like beast wars is that there was a reason I could accept of them being in their beast forms. The whole vehicles thing, it just never worked for me. (Though I was kinda bummed when Beast Form became steadily less and less beastly.)

I know, right? Rhinox was this gentle, placid stoic who was far too stable for the company he kept, and he never got an upgrade. He was definitely my favorite, and him turning evil was... interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Movies, absurd love for them idek (except 4 can diaf). I'm just such a sorry snob about animation aesthetics and the shows don't fly for me.

I have only ever seen Beast Wars (and a few episodes of Beast Machines) and I am absolutely okay with that. *thumbs up*

You shouldn't be. There are much better Transformers series than the Beast Era (Animated, Prime, the current comics)...as well as much worse (G1 cartoon, the Unicron Trilogy, the films).

Enh, I'm just not generally interested in the Transformers as a franchise. Beast Wars is a weird nostalgia thing due to the age and family circumstances in which I first saw it.

Meh to most of it but Beat Wars/Beast Machines.

As spinoff and mostly unrelated it is, Rescue Bots is my favourite so far. It's so damn cute, and the human characters set my expectations too high for those from earlier series (mistake on my part. Fucking Kicker. Fucking Energon).

Prime is very close, but I'm still not yet familiar with the other cartoons. Beast Wars was hella fun as a kid, and now as an adult it is fun for different reasons but it's still good.

The G1 cartoon, which I only started watching recently, is very cute and silly very good for laughs and watching with others, especially if they're unfamiliar with the thing. My little sister wasn't even looking at the screen, but while barely listening to Starscream say something remotely normal in this show, she said, "He sounds like the type of guy that sucks and fails at everything. And everybody hates him." UNDERSTATEMENT.

Latter half of Armada is alright, especially once the budget kicks in and justifies why everything before it looks like crap.

I hope you have an amazing day and see some bananas. Not because bananas are particularly important to having an amazing day just that if you see some bananas today you'll think of this comment and smile in realization that you are having an awesome day and are now aware of it so you can enjoy the moment!

I might have jinxed the well wishes into a bad omen because I saw a banana before reading this. I dropped it after pulling it from the bunch, and it hit the garbage bin before tumbling down the stairs. Spooky! Bruises are tasty though.

How have you been, dude? Long time no see see etc etc. Still being a the most reliable family member of all time?

I watched some old Transformers cartoon when I was a kid because my brother liked it (and he being older had control over the remote). I never was much of a fan because I never really liked the designs. The I discovered Prime when I was coming right out of my Tron:Legacy phase and the designs were so sleek and totally to my taste so I got really into it. Tried watching the other series, noticed I still didn't like the bulkier design, so Prime is not the favourite but the only Transformers series I ever watched completely.
