Re: Favorite Transformers series?

Beast Wars is my all-time favorite, but the animation is sorely dated and a product of its time. 'Code of Hero' still makes me well up every time I watch it, so that makes up for the animation's shortcomings-in-hindsight.

TFAnimated is pretty good, too. I like the approach they took with it, and Sari Sumdac is the only companion character I haven't wanted to throttle. Bonus points for Lance Henrikssen as Lockdown. Mmmm...

And I think I would have liked Beast Machines more if it was its own, non-Transformers series. I thought some of the concepts (like techno-organics, which would later be explored in Animated, seeing as one of the showrunners from BM worked on it) were good in theory, but the execution and wholesale assassination of characterizations makes it difficult to rewatch. The animation is rather lovely, but that's about it.

Oh man, I hear you on Beast Wars. Me and some buddies watched it for Cartoon Night, and basically, those who hadn't seen it when it originally aired were unable to take the animation. It's painfully obvious that it was only the 2nd entirely CG cartoon to air in the US. Beast Machines was way slicker, but... well. It was Beast Machines.

Still, Rhinox was the BEST.

Yeah, I'd say Beast Wars has reached a G1-esque point, where some fans will admit/agree the animation is sorely lacking, but will make a point to say the story/stories are worth sticking it out for. I think so, at least.

I'd love to see another series done with the whole Maximal/Predacon group, if nothing else to make up for Beast Machines (either a wholesale reboot or continuation that ignores BM altogether), but I doubt we'll ever see one. At least the IDW comics, from my understanding, are starting to use BW characters to some extent.

And yes, Rhinox was awesome! Makes what happened to him in Beast Machines all the more infuriating, but ehhh... I think most fans have agreed that BM never happened, haha.

Yeah, I honestly have NO interest in most of the Transformers franchise. The reason I was able to like beast wars is that there was a reason I could accept of them being in their beast forms. The whole vehicles thing, it just never worked for me. (Though I was kinda bummed when Beast Form became steadily less and less beastly.)

I know, right? Rhinox was this gentle, placid stoic who was far too stable for the company he kept, and he never got an upgrade. He was definitely my favorite, and him turning evil was... interesting, but not my cup of tea.
