meh, if it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. I happen to really like it, and I don't find the art style "hideous/atrocious" like some people do. I'm really happy that we have an adaptation that is closer to the manga storyline, and the monster-of-the-week filler is fun for a while but gets old fast, and SMC doesn't have that.

some of my favorite small details have been the inclusion of Venus's chain and Sailor Moon's choker. small things, but they make me happy.

Agree. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing. With a musical, manga, live action show and one anime already under it's belt, you're pretty certain to find something you like in a franchise this big. Crystal isn't perfect, but I don't hate what I see.
