Wellllllll, that's the thing. Sailor Moon (at least in 'Merica) is popular because of the 90's adaption. Which was VASTLY different from the manga. In the 90's adaption, Usagi actually...does things alone/with her friends, and Mamoru kind of fucks off in the background.

I think the only real difference was the Generals, and they fucking killed them off pointlessly. Like, jesus chris, what was the point of adding in the love plot only to squash it a few episodes later? Arg.

SMC just proved that a Sailor Moon adaption straight from the manga only sounds good on paper.

I love the manga,
but Crystal is a pile of shit.

Disregarding the story, the character art is goddamn atrocious.
It's like Baby's First How to Draw Anime Book bad.

It won't ruin SM for me, because I enjoy the other incarnations of the series.
But this particular one is dead to me.

And I don't care if people like the show for their own reasons.
But if they're defending the art, or defending the story, I honestly believe they know absolutely nothing about competent execution of either of these fields.

See, I wanted to like SMC, but it just kinda... fizzled out for me. I'm only really sticking around because the Black Moon arc is my favorite of all the storylines, but ehhhhh... :/

I wanted to use SMC as a gateway into Sailor Moon, since I'd never been into it before. I was excited. But it was terrible.

I have enjoyed what I've seen of the 90s anime, though, so I think I'll just stick with that.

This doesn't ruin Sailor Moon for me, but I don't bother with it. I'll just stick to the original, goofy, fluffy original series.

And I liked PGSM too. Maybe that's something to be ashamed of but I thought it was fun. And Live-action Jupiter was a FOX.

Anywho, I do wish we had more character development and that the Black Moon arc wasn't with the Dark Kingdom one. Though I am enjoying it for what it is. If I want full on character growth, I just watch the older version on Hulu, which I am doing right now.

This show doesn't ruin Sailor Moon as Sailor Moon, the manga series and the old anime HAVEN'T GONE ANYWHERE. Stick with that, jesus.

I know how you feel, OP. I mean, I wasn't that excited about it, but my then roommate was. She's still staying up to 3am to watch the newest episodes.

When I told her I hadn't been watching since, like, episode 3, she was super shocked, telling me that Venus was finally in it so there was no reason not too now. (I am a huge super stan of Venus like WOAH.)

The most bizarre part? She claims to love the Outer Senshi and Pluto is her favorite... but she's never seen or read anything of Sailor Moon outside the first season of the original anime. IDGI.

It ruined everything that was good about SM, now there’s crappy animation, character assassination and a heroine who doesn’t give two shits about her friends (who just sacrificed their lives to save her and regularly get severely injured while trying to defend her) but only cares about her boyfriend and screams for him to save her. Jesus fucking Christ.

I got a lot of gratification from hearing how this show lost 70% of its viewers in Japan over ten episodes (from 454,435 viewers in act to to 146,314 viewers by act twelve).

I've never been into Sailor Moon but every time I come across the Crystal screencaps and character designs I'm absolutely blown away that such a massively popular series could be remade in such a HIDEOUS, poorly-drawn style. It totally astounds me how cheaply they've decided to reboot this for how popular a series the original is.

...That's how the manga is. That's literally it.

It was The Usagi Show. Usagi also hated how much everyone around her suffered by the end, willing to throw herself away into the Galaxy Cauldron because her choices were "destroy the Cauldron and take out Chaos, but be unable to save her friends and doom the entire galaxy" or "save my friends, but allow Chaos to become Sailor Chaos who is going to destroy anything anyway." So she chose the third option and was going to take herself out and Chaos with her because she was fucking tired of everyone dying or getting hurt for her.

(I just wish we'd see more of it sooner.)
