Nice kink shaming, dude.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not even caring

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
When your "kink" involves participants who should NEVER be sexualized (prepubescent children) that's where I draw the line.

And don't pull any of that "but they're just drawings!!1!!" bullshit. People who groom kids for sex work will show them scum like this as instructions.

There's plenty of fetishes that involve stuff that I would find morally repugnant in real life, but as long as it's between two or more consenting adults, I don't give a shit.

But stuff like this should never be seen as "normal" or "okay."

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
how do you feel about guro or nom-con then? what about violent video games?

in your opinion, should fictional sexualization reflect 100% what is safe, sane, and consensual in real life?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
NA but I'm not sure how useful this kind of argument is, in cases where someone is already saying that there's a bright line somewhere. Because it feels like it's just quibbling over where the line should be drawn.

That said, I would argue that there's a distinction between fantasies and depictions of fantasies that involve things that aren't safe, sane, and consensual, but which can be imagined in ways that aren't harmful, and things where the object of the kink is just intrinsically out of bounds. It's not so much that depiction of immoral things is always wrong, so much as the specific nature of the thing we're talking about here. You can have a BDSM lifestyle that works consensually while still dealing with a lot of those fantasies; you can't have a being-attracted-to-12-year-olds lifestyle that does that.

(and, to be clear here, I think that's a fundamentally different thing than, like, age-play)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"imagined in a way that isn't harmful"

idk, a lot of morally awful kinks are ways for some victims to cope or it's imagined in a way that's different from what other people outside the kink would think. like with loli/shota, it's apparently way more common for people to self insert as the loli/shota instead of the faceless man or whatever. just because that sort of thing makes me as uncomfortable as hell doesn't mean i think it should be taken away.

That's... totally not answering what anon asked.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Reading about shota does not mean you actually are attracted to 12 year old boys, you realise that.

Like reading about non-con does not make you think GEE SURE WISH SOMEONE WOULD COME RAPE ME RIGHT NOW when you're outside.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Violent games and movies should be banned. Killing someone is objectively wrong and ISIS will show their recruits scum like this as instructions.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's about what you're doing with the content, not the content itself. I've written stuff about suicide, and it wasn't because I wanted to promote suicide, it was because I was working through my own issues. If you've been abused, and reading porn of abuse helps deal with that, all the more power to you. But if you're writing about abuse as something cute and fluffy . . . I dunno, maybe that can lessen the pain, but I feel like there's more risk in it than benefit.

(Of course, "this kind of porn is bad" is a completely different argument from "this kind of porn should be banned." If there's one thing to be learned from culture news, it's that you should never give a government agency the power to decide what is and isn't pornographic.)

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely loathe this argument, because it leads to the environment where you have to justify every single damn thing you like, and you have to prove that it's okay for you to like it. And I'm not talking about things like shota/loli. Way more tame stuff gets it too. No one needs to justify the reasons they like their media. If they want to, sure, that's great. But they shouldn't be forced to, because real people are always more important than fictional characters, and the consumers are the real people in the equation. Depiction is not endorsement, and yes, that even includes things like "writing about abuse as something cute and fluffy." People in general severely overestimate how fictional tastes correlate to real life views, and furthermore, the level of influence that media (especially this sort of media) has.

When someone can show me an actual compelling argument that this media actually does real harm, I might change my tune. (And no, saying pedophiles like it is not an example, of course they do, and if it didn't exist, they'd just find something else. They do anyway.)

Are you also against non-con, bdsm erotica, gore, and bestiality in fiction

Because all those can be used for grooming too ya know

Wait, what? How is bestiality used for grooming?

I really don't think that sheep understands what is being read to it...

Grooming is important in bestiality. No one wants to have sex with an animal with a messy coat!

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
People who groom kids for sex work will show them scum like this as instructions.

Okay but show me one instance where this has ever happened, ever. I mean it, just one instance where loli/shota has been used as "instructions" for children, show it to me and I'll take it back. "I'm sure that it happens!!" isn't a fucking argument, it's pure conjecture, and you don't bring massive jumps to conclusions to a debate.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
not grooming kids but it did groom this sick fuck to do what he did.

Stealing cars isn't okay either, but isn't that a good portion of the Grand Theft Auto series? By your logic, those games are nothing more than promotional videos to recruit future car thieves. Hey, kids, doesn't that look cool? Come boost cars for my chop shop!

Once you start down the road of banning one bad thing in virtual space you wind up banning damn near everything. I'd rather have the criterion be whether a real person is affected. Otherwise, bye-bye 90% of video games, a large portion of books, and a good half of what's on TV and in the movies. Like Game of Thrones? Too bad. People get killed on that show and when viewers see people on TV get killed, they might think killing's okay and murder someone. I mean, before they saw that show they thought it was wrong to kill someone, but now, hey, it's all good. If Joffrey does it, it must be okay.

Seriously, I hate this kind of argument where seeing something in fiction will make someone think it's okay and will lead to them doing it in real life. People aren't the dumb-assed blank slates you think they are. They know what's right and what's not; what's fiction and what's not. And if they do something immoral, it won't be because a cartoon, video game, or TV show told them to. By the same token, if they're immoral sociopathic assholes, all the sunshine and rainbows on TV won't make them good people. If someone's sick enough to groom a kid for this shit, they're not going to stop if all they have to show them is My Little Pony. They'll stop when their asses are in jail. The problem is, it's easy to call for banning something; it's a lot harder to find these people and lock them up. But since the more difficult option is the effective one, that's where the energy should be focused.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I was basically in sympathy with your point until you made this argument. Now I think you're completely full of shit, a thoughtcrime-prosecuting asshole, and I hope the world continues to creep you out because at least that means the rest of us aren't like you.
