I don't know if this will answer your question, and I hope I don't just end up digging myself a hole here. The video is about Star Wars fans (and is hilarious), but I'm really talking about "fans" in a broad sense. That Guy is symbolic to me of a very stereotypical, socially awkward person who is so absorbed in his geeky fantasy life that he can't really function out of that context. I understand this IS an extreme stereotype, but I really worry that people will think I'm like that if I disclose the truth about my hobbies.

8. I can't help but think this is either a parody of all the "I'm a lesbian but I can only get off to yaoi porn" stuff that floats around fandom, or an experiment to see if people react differently when the sexuality/gender is switched.

On the other hand, if it's true, more power to you. So long as you can get off, and you aren't hurting anybody, it doesn't matter how.

18. I think that people feeling like this is a result of all the misogyny embedded in our society, all the messages that say "men's feelings are more important than women's." And I hate it.

Eh, I like FF main pairings (although the only ones I really adore are Locke/Celes and Squall/Rinoa; Zidane/Garnet and Tidus/Yuna are cute and sweet, but they don't really do anything for me), but not everyone does. So long as you're not all RARR BASH, whatever. But I can assure you, don't be afraid to play FFXII--there is no "main pairing." Sure, Vaan and Penelo are pretty much implied to be together (I and most of the rest of the fandom ship Larsa/Penelo instead anyway), but there's no focus on that, and Vaan isn't really the main character anyway, Ashe is. And she has no canon love interest who isn't dead by the second scene, despite what the zomg-Balthier/Ashe-is-CANON!! people say. X) Of course, I still find her eminently shippable with Basch, Al-Cid, and Balthier. Because she's hot.

You might also want to try FFVI, if you haven't already. You might actually find yourself liking Locke/Celes. ♥

8. I've actually met a number of straight women who feel the same way. Maybe something in it appeals more to you. It's no biggie and doesn't mean you're not straight. I'm a lesbian and most of the fandoms I'm involved in are m/m slash (although obviously I will pass on any in-depth descriptive odes to their throbbing manhoods and whatnot, thanks).

39. Really? You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't think it makes him a wimp with no personality. Getting drugged and tortured by a psychotic man with multiple personalities would break anyone, but Reid still kept it together enough to help the BAU save him.

If you don't like his personality, fine -- although I find Reid really endearing -- but I'm confused as to how the episode with Tobias Henkel proves that he's "boring and whiny," because for me, at worst, it doesn't change anything, and at best it proves the opposite.

41. I've never seen that before, but ugh, that's really stupid. One of the biggest frustrations I have about slash fandoms is the rampant female-hating that takes place in them. Grow the hell up, people. If your OTP is dependent on how much you can prevent either of them getting within a mile of a female character and/or how much you can bash said female character, obviously your faith in the relationship isn't that strong.

If you don't like het or that particular character/person in a het relationship, fine. More power to you. But you don't have to be so childish about it. Women are not that awful. It's not cute.

(edit: after re-reading the meme quote I realized it probably wasn't meant to come off that way, but it still does come off partially as "OMG not a WOMAN" to me. So.)

30. There's no romance in FFXII. Seriously. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. There's a few hinted-at relationships: you can see Ashe->Balthier or Balthier/Fran or Larsa/Penelo or Vaan/Penelo, but there's zero canon. It is not a romance and there is no romance. This is not a kissing book.

So... feel free to play it and enjoy it for what it is. :3

FFXII: Revenant Wings isn't subtle, though, so stay away from that if you're afraid of hating canon romance.
