Well, I think it's hilarious that the creators of the show keep insisting that it's "clever" and "for smart people". But to each his own.

got to butter up their fans themselves somehow i suppose

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, really?

Haha, that's... kind of sad, really.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Good god.

Bear in mind that the intended audience is the UK.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
...Excuse me?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure the intended audience is American PBS viewers.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the person you just replied to lives in the UK.

Also...what.

Judging from all the determined London visual porn, it's for the Yanks, actually.

/and yes, we see what you did there. Arse.

Exactly. If the people involved with the show didn't play up the substance, the viewers wouldn't nitpick the style so much. It's a decent show, but it's not ZOMG BEST SHOW EVARR!!11!!!1 and the more Sherlockians insist it is, the less I like them and the less I like the show.

What if from now on I insist that your favorite show is ZOMG BEST SHOW EVARR!!11!!!1? :3

I would react with considerable surprise and maybe a bit of condescension.

(My favorite show is Glee. There aren't a lot of positive things said about the show, because honestly, it is a pretty vapid piece of fluff entertainment.)

There's wishful thinking if I ever heard it.

This is what sinks the show for me. It's fun enough to watch if you're not taking it seriously, but the creators think they're making intellectual television. Is... is someone going to tell them?

It always works better the other way around, when the creators are super modest with goals of "entertain people, yo!", and the fans know this but consciously put effort into giving the show loads of depth and complexity via fanfiction etc.

It's like no one would ever notice, if they didn't point it out at every opportunity ...
