(Anonymous) 2015-01-31 08:22 am (UTC)(link)I think a lot of rape trauma is causedby a cultural conditioning to begin with. Women are told that sex is inherently degrading to them, while men are told that sex is inherently elevating to them, so naturally they wouldn't have the same feelings about it (the difference would be transmen, who are socialized female so they'd be taught to fear rape the way women do). But this raises the question of how could men be able to tell when they're acting sexually aggressive and it's wrong of them to do it, when the exact same things are done to them by women and it's not seen as a big deal. So perhaps, we SHOULD treat it seriously. But then again, it's probably better to let male victims remain blissfully ignorant of their rape, than to teach them to feel traumatized by it.
Yeah, it's a tough problem.
