Not as much as thought police, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-31 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What is this? What is this thought police?

Like, on the one hand, it's clearly acceptable to say that some kind of thought is, in some sense, wrong. If I think that the earth rotates around the moon, that is wrong and it is valid to say that it's wrong. I mean, is that thought policing? What kind of coherent statement are we trying to make when we say thought police?

We are trying to say that telling somebody they are somehow oppressive for simply being attracted to somebody they know won't be attracted to them back is a form of thought policing, and more oppressive then the initial thought could ever be. Even if this insane moron of an idea is somehow correct, the response is in fact the greater evil.

...I cannot believe I am about to type this, but +1, noodles. +1.

Well technically someone *thinking* the earth rotates around the moon doesn't harm anyone.

It's kinda like how I approach evolution. I believe it's a thing, but if someone else doesn't and they're not a biologist (or in another scientific field where it really matters) I honestly do not care as long as they're not trying to tell me I'm wrong, a bad Christian, ignorant, etc. - and I'll argue about it 'til the cows come home but only if they want to

They can think it, but they should try to overcome it and not indulge it, knowing the implications.

I'm thinking about banging Ellen right now. She's pretty cute. This is working!

(Anonymous) 2015-01-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not very nice at all.

I am willing to accept that I am not nice. Just not oppressive.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
But what if you're doing something that is, or thinking in ways that cause you to be more biased against other people? Isn't it worth it to think about that?

Since I do not believe anon's fantasy with a gay actors had made her more biased or oppressed, I would answer that question in this situation with "good thing that's not happening here."

(Anonymous) 2015-02-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think that could depend on how far it has gone, or if it's being indulged too greatly.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
You, on the other hand, are definitely indulging in fantasies that make you inclined to oppress others. Please, awaken from the dream in which you are the only one who gets to decide what other people think!

(Anonymous) 2015-02-01 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
If you really believe that, doesn't that prove the whole point? If me fixating on these thoughts is making me do harmful things, and maybe they are and I will think on that, what makes everyone else different from me?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-01 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
You appear to have a totalitarian mindset, which really can cause people to harm others. Don't be a fascist, hon. Fight it.

cloud_riven: Bill from Pokemon side-eying to the left! Judging you! (*animu sweatdrop*)

It's true. There are serious implications involving the dry status of my drawers if I think too hard about my sexually incompatible thoughts about people who wouldn't fuck me anyway :(
