Re: Things I feel guilty for thread

I feel guilty about blacklisting people's names on tumblr instead of unfollowing them.

I'm the exact opposite - I blacklist people because I would feel guilty for unfollowing them (if I know them in real life, that is).

Yeah, that's why I do it. The guilt of unfollowing them would be worse. But I still feel guilty that I can't get up the nerve to unfollow them because of that.

That's true. One of them in particular only spam things I really don't care about but I dread unfollowing her just in case she notices and is offended. I don't mind if random people on the internet get offended by people unfollowing them, but real life friends and acquaintances are another matter.

I don't blacklist, so I just unfollow and feel awful about it. (Not often, btw. Like..maybe four times in my entire time on tumblr.)

I did this today to someone I mistakenly followed.

I honestly specifically ignore my follower list on tumblr to prevent psyching myself out on this. It's way too easy to get way too invested in the folks who are following you. (Especially since with other multis, we might get added, removed, re-added, and RE-removed within the course of a week.)

What really bothers me is when people post something on a sensitive topic, then post about how many followers they "lost" because of that one post. I remember that for a while, I kept following someone for fear one day I'd leave and I'd just be pegged as one of the "lost." (Then I realized that was a creepy, stupid reason to follow someone and unfollowed them and felt much better.)

I did this back when I was actually active on Tumblr. I never once felt guilty though.

Unfollowing would have led to a lot of unwanted drama, and blacklisting gave me the best of both worlds - didn't have to see a thing they posted and didn't have to listen to them throwing hissyfits about how mean people were to unfollow someone as wonderful as them.
