I started with Season 1. Does it get less cringy? I only watched the first 2 episodes. Can I just skip to season 2?

DA

It gets so much less cringey. Unfortunately, there's enough character relationship stuff in the first season that you do kinda have to watch it.

Just skip to season 2. Seriously. I only watched one episode of season 1, and I was able to follow along just fine in the later seasons, and you can kind of figure out what happened during it through context/things that are mentioned in the later seasons.

To make it a little easier for you, though, here are the "important" things about s1 (other people can add things I guess, but these are the things that seem to be referenced post-s1):
-Leslie slept with Mark years ago and still has a thing for him
-Leslie presides over the wedding of two penguins, who turn out to be gay. Leslie is thereafter considered a hero by the local gay community
-Andy falls into the pit and gets hurt
-Ann breaks up with Andy

Cool. That seems pretty basic. Not like I am watching it for the superb character development.

They just won me over with the penguins in the backseat in the baby seats.

Andy falling into the pit is also shown via flashbacks, I think! Same with the break-up.

The penguins episode also opens Season 2. It was quite an introduction.

Oh, huh. For some reason I thought that happened in s1. Shit, maybe I never saw the first episode of s2? Weird.

It's definitely possible. The only reason I remember so well is because I started right on Netflix and have my physical copy nearby to double-check. More DVD sets need to print their episode summaries right where you can see them.

Another DA, but seconding this. Even the characters are different.

I'll counter with a "yes, you can just skip to Season 2." I became interested in watching it during Season... 3, I think. My friends told me to start with 2 and avoid 1 altogether. I'm still checking out new episodes every week, even if there aren't many left.

There will always be some cringe comedy involving one of the characters, though. His name varies by season, but he starts off as Gerry/Jerry.

I started watching in season 3 and I've never watched any of season 1 and only about half of season 2 and I honestly feel I haven't missed anything major.

Yeah, I'm flipping through my set's summaries and would only cite a few S2 episodes for continuity, although S2 is a much nicer start. The first Tammy episode is S2. Same with Galentine's Day and the first/major appearance of Sweetums.

S3 is when everything starts building into steady call-backs, I think. Although I have no idea when the janitor that listens to Shania Twain shows up. He was in a recent episode and I didn't even realize it was a reference until my friends pointed it out.

There's also the stuff with Tom's wife in season 2 that's marginally important. Also s2 has some episodes you should watch just because they're good, like the episode where everyone tries to get dirt on everyone, or the episode with Duke Silver.

The janitor that listens to Shania Twain shows up in the finale of s3 with Lil Sebastian's funeral. They're having a moment of silence and he comes in with Shania Twain playing. There might be an earlier appearance but I know he's in that one.

Thank you for reminding me! It's been a while since I've seen S3, so I just couldn't place him.

Yeah, I also debated mentioning Tom's wife because I remembered the arc well, but not everyone cares about Tom. I didn't want to take too long typing since I'm slow as is /snail life

One of my personal favorites is Sister City. I'm not even sure if it's that good, but that was when I got sold on how ridiculous the show was. Especially April's subplot.
