DA

It gets so much less cringey. Unfortunately, there's enough character relationship stuff in the first season that you do kinda have to watch it.

Damn. :(

Just skip to season 2. Seriously. I only watched one episode of season 1, and I was able to follow along just fine in the later seasons, and you can kind of figure out what happened during it through context/things that are mentioned in the later seasons.

To make it a little easier for you, though, here are the "important" things about s1 (other people can add things I guess, but these are the things that seem to be referenced post-s1):
-Leslie slept with Mark years ago and still has a thing for him
-Leslie presides over the wedding of two penguins, who turn out to be gay. Leslie is thereafter considered a hero by the local gay community
-Andy falls into the pit and gets hurt
-Ann breaks up with Andy

Cool. That seems pretty basic. Not like I am watching it for the superb character development.

They just won me over with the penguins in the backseat in the baby seats.

Andy falling into the pit is also shown via flashbacks, I think! Same with the break-up.

The penguins episode also opens Season 2. It was quite an introduction.

Oh, huh. For some reason I thought that happened in s1. Shit, maybe I never saw the first episode of s2? Weird.

It's definitely possible. The only reason I remember so well is because I started right on Netflix and have my physical copy nearby to double-check. More DVD sets need to print their episode summaries right where you can see them.

Another DA, but seconding this. Even the characters are different.
