I'm supposed to stay awake from now til a medical test tomorrow at 7AM.

I'm a fucking adult, but I really wish I could get a hug from my Mom right now. This sleep deprivation is not good for my sanity.

If you can, eats LOADS of sugar. I've found it really helps me to stay awake so loading up on it will help you stay away. I imagine it's because the brain uses glucose and eating sugary things requires minimal processing by your body.

Go out and get nutella or ice cream or candy or whatever.

What is this, advice from a 12 year old? Eating enough sugar to keep you up all night will not only be terrible for your health, but it may mess with whatever medical tests anon has and result in the worst sugar crash.

Anon, have some caffeine in moderate amounts and stay active. Take a brisk 20 minutes walk every couple hours or something, or do something mentally engaging.

Hence why I said "if you can" -- lots of medical exams (and many, many surgeries) won't let you eat before.

It doesn't matter if a sugar crash occurs once you're allowed to go to sleep.

And sugar is surely better than caffeine -- it's food for the brain.

I mean, I'm not advocating that this be done regularly so I'm not quite sure why you'd say it would be terrible for anon's health.

I did this every once in a while when I wanted to stay up to study for exams (since I could easily go to sleep right after taking the exam). Helps you focus and gives you energy -- if my grades are anything to go by, it's a pretty good technique.

Yeah, no. It's to do with amounts of sugar. It's not nearly as effective as caffeine in keeping people awake, so you'd have to eat large amounts of it over, say, 8-10 hours for it to keep you awake overnight. Even a person who's not diabetic is going to feel rather sick if they take your well intentioned but completely idiotic advice.

Aw, thanks, but I'm not allowed to have any caffeine to keep myself awake. But! I did just go outside and shovel 30 ft of snow that was a foot and a half deep. I am not tired at all haha.

Since they're measuring my brain waves, and not stuff like my glucose level, I could probably have a bit of soda or something mildly sugary.

I might actually rely on a few sugar boosts to get through this, seeing if and how my energy flags. I have icecream in my freezer, so I may very well.
