I am so sick of people complaining about 50 Shades. Tumblr is all, "Don't go watch it, it is abuse!!!!" As if any of those idiots on Tumblr were going to see it in the first place. And middle aged women don't care about whether it is abuse or not. It is a porn fantasy. There is erotica about dinosaurs fucking women.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the dinosaur ones are about dinosaurs fucking men.

I just saw a pterosaur one with a girl, but I can't say I'm actively looking.

OH GOOD GOD YOU SAW IT TOO?

I am so sorry.

Or possibly one from Smart Bitches Trashy Books. They have reviewed some pretty cracked up piles of WTF.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I was staying out of the complaining until this.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, but I think a lot of the complaining comes from the fact that it's so popular, and is normalizing the consent-issues 'bdsm' as something that women want.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Is it normalizing that?

Serious question. How would we even know? Who is it normalizing that for?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently several women have actually died because their partners tried to emulate it...

... They're selling "50 Shades of Grey BDSM kits" in grocery stores.

And this right here? THIS is why I hate the phenomenon so much.

I hate being part of an entire gender whose desires are being stereotyped this way, when they are SO very very very not my own.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's stupid that they're saying it's sad that 50 Shades is being advertised where children can see the posters. Because nothing says "Hey kids, abuse is fun and awesome!" like a picture of a man in a suit looking at the Seattle skyline.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
If you think about it, it's pretty obvious that the real villain in all of this is the city of Seattle.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"And middle aged women don't care about whether it is abuse or not."

Because if you're female, you can't care about whether or not something is abuse after a certain age? Great to know that, as a woman who isn't exactly young.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
It is literally advertised as a fucking BDSM how-to. There is a line of sex toys with its logo. The author literally calls any abuse victims that call her male character abusive "witches" and "trolls" and whines about how it shouldn't be compared to abuse because ~that's a disservice to real victims of abuse~.

At least the storylines about dinosaurs fucking people, you know, outright admit they're fucking fantasy and don't bill themselves as anything but.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
...is it bad that I actually snickered at the pun in your first sentence?

I want to go see it just to spite the people on Tumblr bitching about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Buy a ticket to FSOG and sneak into Jupiter Ascending instead. Double tumblr-spite for the price of one.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's pearl-clutching disguised as social justice. Same damn thing happened when the Twilight movies came out, and you'll notice that there wasn't in fact a rash of girls dying in abusive relationships after they all went to see it.

I mean, for fuck's sake, you all claim to be feminists and then completely remove women's agency. You think women can't watch this movie without suddenly being brainwashed into an abusive BDSM situation? What the fuck is wrong with you?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Normalizing abuse and disguising it as just kinky sex and then shaming actual abuse victims who speak out against it isn't fucking feminism.

Quit trying to use these arguments because they're literally disgusting.

Seriously. It's an extremely regressive, conservative point of view. Only certain enlightened people can distinguish between fantasy and reality, apparently. They're saying the movie is a toned down version anyway, just like with Twilight.

Ok, first off, Twilight-level abuse and 50SoG-level abuse are two completely different ballgames, I mean holy shit.

Secondly, saying that a huge pop culture phenomenon normalizes the thing it portrays isn't the same thing as saying anyone who watches/reads it will be brainwashed. At all.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed in the sense that Tumblr needs to shut the fuck up about it. It isn't even their demographic in the first place.

Tumblr whining about things that aren't in their demographic and they're "DEFINITELY NEVER GOING TO SEE!", then patting themselves on the back like a job well done when the movie bombs pisses me off. Tumblr is not the media hub of the world and is a small blip of consumers, they don't have that kind of 'power' to gloat about.

really??
